It's a Marlin 375 with a Sightmark Photon 6x50 night vision scope. Not really new as I bought the rifle new in the early 1980s, but the scope setup is new for it. I thought through a lot of different ideas of rifle configurations before I finally settled on what to do with the scope. I found this is a difficult scope to mount on anything other than an AR due due to the short eye relief. This setup works well for the eye relief and balances better than anything else I have to put it on. I had to reverse both the picatinny rail and the cantilever mount to get the scope where it needed to be. Fortunately it bore sighted well as these scopes have a very limited range of adjustment. It can be powered by a USB cable to save battery life which is perfect since I had already installed a USB port right on my shooting bench for my phone. No more messing with lights on the feeder. banana

Is that your cabin or a tricked-out blind?

Both. It is an old camper that I refubished for night hog hunting on a place in East Texas we hunt in exchange for working the land and killing hogs. I wish I had just set up with a night vision scope from the get go instead of lights on the feeders. My big feeder throws much farther than what my lights cover. And after the trees leafed out this spring, I found the lights don't always get enough sun to charge them to work well past about 2am. Stormy weeks even worse. And on my Young county lease I have had to shoot a lot of hogs by walking them up in a wheat field under moonlight holding a spotlight in one hand and a rifle laid over my arm with my other hand for a quick light em up off hand shot. This new setup will be a game changer for both places.

Nice. I have just started looking at a way to ease into night hog hunting. Don't want to spend the $ on thermal and have looked at this very optic. Can you tell me why you went with this over a Wraith?

I'm using the same scope on my 308 Vanguard. When I'm in the blind I take an extra feeder battery and a small 7" screen and plug it in to the scope. I can sit back a relax while watching the the screen until the pigs show up. then get behind the rifle and pop'em. The lack of mounting options and the lack of adjustment is the only drawback I've had with the setup. Good luck with it!

It's true hard work never killed anybody, but I figure, why take the chance.

Wouldn't it be better to turn your mount around? I don't see how you can shoot with it like that, the scope looks way to far back... look at the pic of your rifle in the stand, and compare.

Great caliber choice!! Those big slow heavy bullets tump over pigs right where they stand. You wont have to chase many down in the dark with that one.

There's something you don't see on a Marlin everyday. That should get the job done. I still think your stand is the best one in Texas.

'Still think that awesome setup needs a still a few yards off in the woods. I call that "working the land". roflmao Who knows, maybe the smell would even bring in more hogs.

I've got the same scope. It is deceiving because the eye piece is a long collapsable piece of rubber. Your eye is pushed up all the way against the eye piece.

Where did you get the cheek piece?

With that mount turned forward I was having to stretch my neck far forward and almost off the end of the raised cheek pad to get my eye to the rubber eye piece. I first tried a 12 slot cantilever bridge with two Burris Zee Rings. It put the scope at about the same location but I felt it was not solid enough for the weight of the scope on the end of that mount. I could push pull down on the scope and get it to spring up and down slightly. And these scopes have a very small range of adjustment so some people have trouble with the scope sighting lower than the bullseye with the vertical adjustment bottomed out. Thus requiring things like a 20 MOA base or adjustable rings. I found the adjustable zee rings are not going to be necessary for my rifle. I will have them with me during sight in and may explore using them alone on the picatinny rail, but even with the rings close together near the back it will still put the scope an inch or two farther forward than the setup pictured. As it is I can close my eyes, bring the rifle with cheek pad to my face wihout moving my head or neck, open my eyes, and my eye is just touching the eye piece with a good sight picture. This scope is really meant to be mounted on an AR.

Price. No other reason. I got a good deal on this RT 6x50 for under $350 by low bidding two or three different models on ebay for the last couple months. Like you I wanted to try an entry scope without spending a bunch of money on it.

Google Blackhawk Rifle Cheek Pad. Don't remember where I got it. I had bought it to use on a scoped Mas 49 years ago.

You bought used, on EBAY?

It was advertised as New/Open box from a business, good feedback, not an individual, and a true auction so I was comfortable with my snipe on it. What I received was still sealed in plastic with the seals on the box unopened. There are so many XTs on there right now it seems to have the final auction prices on the photons diluted some. Some get bidding wars and go for more than they are worth of course and the Buy Nows though are mostly high retail or more as usual. Some of the XT auctions from the same dealer are ending for much less.

That's a great idea on the screen. I have the newer model scope with wifi. I could sit back and stream it to my phone or better yet to an old samsung tablet I have that right now is just going to waste in a drawer somewhere.

Good deal. Could you share the Ebay member? I may start watching a few auctions.
