I have been using deer blocks from Tractor Supply. The Sportsman Choice blocks are getting eaten quickly but the Treeline blocks are left alone. I actually poured corn on top and around the Treeline block and after 3 weeks not even the raccoons will eat it.

Blocks in the past have been hit or miss for me as well. Some good, some not so good, think a lot depends on what else they have to eat. If a lot, not great, if very little, they will hammer blocks pretty well has been my experience.

The Sportsman Choice blocks used to be a much softer block than the rest. They were made they way so the deer would eat them faster, thus making you buy more of them. They add some flavor products to them also that make the animals go after them. It is one block deer will readily eat not long after you put it, if the range conditions are poor. Hogs will roll them around like a bowling ball and eat them fast, if they can get to them. You can follow the block powder trail to find what is left of the block. The harder the block is the more the deer have to work at it to eat IME. Without any top front teeth the deer has to work at the block to get started eating it. Evolved Habitats makes or made a product that was called Block Topper IIRC that when poured over the top of the block attracts the deer to eat them better.

Have any of yall tried Trophy Rocks? They're like salty mineral licks. I use them for elk out west and they hammer them. If you have cattle, they will destroy them before the deer can get to them. I havent tried them for WT but i'm sure they would have a similar effect.

I put out the berry flavored Record Rock block out a week ago. Went to check cameras yesterday and the dang thing got hammered. Looks like they're killing a block a week right now.

I hunted with a guy that made his own. It was a mix of peanut butter, corn salt, and made into a block using sugar and Karo syrup cooked to the candy stage on a candy thermometer. In other words, he was making huge blocks of sugar candy. He used 2 gallon plastic buckets as his mold. He had a big stainless steel pot and used a turkey fryer as his stove. No clue on his recipe, all I ever saw him do was add what he thought was a good amount. Any good hard rock candy recipe will can probably lead you down this path of money destruction. This is similar to his method, and in my opinion it was easier. https://www.instructables.com/id/Molasses-Deer-Lick/ If you go either of these routes, see if you can find a wholesale grocery place that sells generic peanut butter in the institutional size jars. What got Gilbert started making these is we bought some barrels from the local cookie bakery, that had contained peanut butter. I would scrape out a gallon or 2 of PB before we went and washed them for feeders.

The Treeline is still sitting thereafter 4 weeks or so. I put out a new Sportsman Choice in my yard and w/in 4 hours there were 4 bucks eating it, it is almost gone after a couple days.

Research homemade cattle feed blocks on Google. There is lots of information that can be transferred to making your own specialty deer blocks. Some of the info was pretty surprising to me, no cooking involved, just a lot of mixing to get the stuff ready for the molds.

I usually put out one of the smaller protien tub when I take some for my cows. They have to eat it from the top because they can't get to an edge so it lasts longer. They seem to like it as it always gets eaten. Its $40 for 125# tub so not to bad.

Has anybody ever tried mixing powered kool-aid with their deer corn? If you do, I've heard to use sugar free. I cannot attest from personal experience but I suspect too much of that with sugar in it may promote clumping if there is any moisture inside the feeder. Used sparingly, probably not and issue.

I put out a deer block once. I broke it into about 6 pieces so deer could eat it easier. The pigs finished it in an hour. I left another one whole, it lasted two nights. I killed a lot of pigs after that.

Not really a deer block but I put out the red trace mineral blocks and bucks, does and fawns coming to it day and night.I put out some loose trace minerals (made for cattle) one year and the deer dug a 2 ft deep hole eating it up.Seems to work really good when it's hot guessing they love the salt content.

Update, That Treeline Protein block, after sitting here for a month with no action, I figured i would take it out to my hog spot, I dumped corn on it and around it. Came back and the hogs tore up the corn and did not touch that dang block. Crazy, they will eat anything except this stupid block, today I took a sledge hammer and broke it into pieces and poured corn on it, will check again tomorrow. I think I just want something, anything to eat the darn thing. lol

Is there any way to hang these from a tree? or elevated them so the hogs can't get to them...If so please share...
I was thinking about building a small platform on a tree, but I am not sure how to anchor the block down so it wouldn't get knocked off without splitting it in half or something... Bunjee cord??

Drill a hole through the block and feed a rope through the hole and hang it in a tree or against it at desired height......Block on a rope!
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

All Seasons feeders makes a hanger that you can put a few of them in there and they drop as needed to the bottom. Tractor Supply has them sometimes for maybe $39 or $49.

Between the deer and coons, mine won't last but a week and I stopped putting them out. Same with rice bran, 50lbs will last two weeks
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

I have been using Hi-Pro GX 30-30 Deer Block for several years. I have been buying it at Gores in Comanche. It is the best by far and the deer love it. It weighs 33 lbs. and is 18% protein. I have used several that just sat there and a waste of money. We bought one of these about 10 years ago and put it in front of our camera. They ate the whole thing in about 3 days. We had no hogs or livestock of any kind either.

I Put out a few big and J blocks last year and they were hammered within a few days. the coons ate on them all night, and the deer would eat some during the day. at $20 a piece, there's just no way that's ever a good deal when they won't even last a week.

We put out the trace mineral blocks also up here, the horses get their benefit as well as the mule deer, whitetails and elk. Also good luck with the loose trace mineral.
