Getting a new optic for my new 22 match build.
Looking at the 6-24x Vortex Diamondback Tactical FFP with EBR-2C reticle focuses down to 10yards
Also looking at the 3-15x SFP from SWFA it focuses down to 6M with the mil Quad reticle.
I personally like the vortex reticle better and the more magnification for the 22.
But the SWFA is a proven platform with repeatable turrets. Both are around the same price which would you get and why?

Because the SS won't break down.
Vortex optics are just looking for a place to break down. And when they do it will be most unhandy.

SS all day everyday. The reasons have already been mentioned. The only reason to get the Vortex would be the one Fitz gave. If I’m dialing mechanics trumps glass every time. And I don’t think the diamondback has any better glass anyway.
After owning a few, for target ONLY, I’d rather have the SS 10x HD over the 3-15. The glass is that much better.

I’ve owned the 10x and the 12x before and I’ve also had the 3-15x and thought the same thing. The glass is better on the fixed powers but I don’t really know how well that would be shooting from 10-250 yard 22 matches.

The 10x and 12x as well as the 3-15 are their standard glass. The 10x HD is a whole different animal. Significantly more expensive also which kinda puts it in a nitch market. Coming in around $799 if I remember correctly.

Oh I wasn’t looking at the HD 10x. Probably going to go with the 3-15x on the sample list for $399

Thanks Gary, I’ve had one of the 3-15x before. I want one of the 4-20 HD’s but don’t have a rifle for it at the moment.

LOL I asked Skyler the same question & got one of each : shooting the vortex on a ruger competition 22 & the SWFA on a CZ455 22
Have not had problems with either one : shooting subsonic cci sv for practice mostly , its not like recoil is going to be a problem

Hetman since you’ve shot them both would you say the glass is better on one than the other? If so is it significant? Just a curiosity point.

I’m wondering if the 5-20 will be death of the 10x. The only big gain is weight. They’ve both been out a long time but I’ve never saw the 5-20s as cheap as they are right now. I wonder if it’s the end of an era for them with a new product in the pipeline.

I have heard that rumored else where also. Personally I was happy to get mine cheap and not have to pay more for whatever they come out with next.
