Just for the sake of arguement let's say semi autos are banned in the future. No more hunting with Ar's , Mini 14s. AKs etc. No political statements please or a moderator would move or lock this thread I'm sure. One kind of gun set up would be your choice? And would the hog population grow even faster than current rates?

I have bolt actions that I am comfortable with shooting fast enough to put damage on pigs. Grendel is my favorite. As far as population growing we can adapt to the best weapon of choice.

I don't think second shot hogs are common enough to make a difference in population control. Not sure hunting does just a huge amount either, maybe in local areas.
As to your questions, big cal bolt gun works fine.

Right now I have three that I use regularly. 300 BLK in standard AR platform, Marlin 1895 guide gun 45/70, and a Rossi model 92 in 357 mag. If your scenario were to play out, I have two very capable hog guns already. Is the population going to grow? Well, yeah....it's growing now with everyone running around with ARs and 30 round mags.
I have to agree, that a bolt gun is normally just fine and most of the time you don't need rapid fire....but I usually hunt in pretty dense cover and one shot at a time is the normal.
I'd admit, I really can't shoot accurately faster than I can cycle a bolt gun, but barring any semi-autos, I have a Remington 760 in 35 Remington that I think I can get back on target slightly quicker than a lever gun, simply due to all the 870 shooting. Muscle memory, I guess.

I have a Ruger Model 77/44 and a Rossi M92, both in 44 Mag caliber. Hogs don't get up after getting smacked with a round from either of them, and normally the rest of the sounder has disappeared or is running around trying to figure out where to go! Follow up second shots with the Ruger or the Rossi are quite possible but rarely needed. If my AR arsenal should get suicided, I would be quite comfortable continuing my war on hogs without them.
