Today it happened again. A guy sits next to me, has an AR15 pistol in 300 BO, with a weird looking muzzle break and a cheap red dot. He empties a couple of magazines. That thing was so loud that I decided to leave a little earlier (I was almost done). Then I look at my target and I see that 10 of his rounds are on my target and his target doesn’t have one hole in it. He told me he’s sorry and started changing the settings on his red dot and shoots again. He then asks if he’s still hitting my target. I said I don’t know and I don’t care because I’m leaving. The truth was I didn’t feel like helping him sight in his gun. Long story short….By the time I left, he was almost out of ammo and his target still looked brand new. This is not the first time I’m experiencing this. What I’ve noticed is that guys that show up with obnoxious loud muzzle break, don’t shoot well and have problems with their guns.
Now I’m thinking of repurposing one of my upper to be the loudest and most obnoxious gun out there. Next time I’m at the range and one of those guys shows up, instead of getting pissed because the shockwave is making me dizzy and my table is shaking, I would simply start shooting my dedicated upper next to him. What muzzle break do you recommend for this build?

You should do what I do. I have an 308 Encore barrel that I had chopped to 18". I have a SilencerCo ASR muzzle brake on it so that I can run my SpecWar on it. When one of those guys sits next to me, I just remove the can, load up some of my BLC-2 loads, and start firing (after doubling up on hearing protection). You would be amazed at how loud those loads are out of an 18" barrel with a brake.

My choice as a payback muzzle device was the JP Eliminator. It will get everyone’s attention especially when it’s on the end of a 28 Nosler.

BTW, it's a muzzle "brake" not a break.

Just bring out the 5" .44 Magnum revolver... it always got me a lot of alone time when I shot It at H&H indoor range in OKC.

I have a little bastard gen2 brake on my AIAT. The barrel is 26” in .260. I don’t find it to be that loud and nobody has ever complained. I was reading the comments on the DD Muzzle Climb Mitigator. You can read: “Muzzle flash and blast are very substantial. In the still frame I mentioned above, it became evident that the fireball spreads about 18" to the left and right of the muzzle (from the side ports) and about 12" upward (from the top ports). I didn't notice this much while shooting during daylight but you'd definitely know it at night. Going along with the flash and gas redirection, the muzzle blast is not subtle. At the range it can already be irritating to the shooter next to you if you're shooting .223/5.56.” https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1003311086That might be what I need…

Also, you can change up what powder to use to make the round louder. Usually, I go the other direction from loud, but you can run a slow burning powder for a good fire ball and loud bang.

The last time I went to Fossil Pointe, the guy beside me got kicked out
I will never go to a public range again on a weekend
Mid week only.
My guy had a AK pistol. It was a real pleasure right next to me
I feel your pain

Get an AR pistol with an 8" barrel in 5.56 and use any brake you want. Even a regular flash hider is loud with those things. Much louder than a 300 blackout pistol.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

I feel your pain They kicked him out just because his gun was loud? I think the ideal solution is to have a few spots reserved for loud/big guns. Big ranges can do that. Even better....few spots for rimfire, the majority for standard rifles, and a few for loud and calibers like 338 LM. Offe course if the range is full, they can put a standard rifle instead of a rimfire, etc...

yep, they will clear two benches, especially at Garland range One of my dearest friends on here shot one next to me at Jasons Hunters Challenge. It was a SWEEEEET 6.5 PRC. I had to "duck n cover" every time he squeezed off.

I feel your pain holler after it cools off, I'll meet you out there, see what the .22 Creedmoor will do at 800. (radial brake, not as bad)

He got kicked out when he handed it to his 10-12 year old son who was hitting the wood berm placed at about 8 foot that wasn’t supposed to be shot, LOL. He managed to hit id guess 3 times w a .308 pistol before the range master caught on He was more focused on recording his son with his phone who clearly had no control of that piece and I’d bet hadn’t even shot a bb gun all that much. It was a real hoot, lemme tell ya...
