Thinking about getting a folding top storage tote and just letting the antlers stick out of the top. The cape will be in a bag so I can just back ice around that. Should be fine for the 3.5 - 4 hour drive.

I have a Trophy Cooler but also use a larger soft-sided bag cooler that I can put the cape and antlers in with jugs of ice or bags of ice and zip it shut. I drain both of them and keep the cape as dry as I can. This is the Trophy Cooler with the soft top removed. Top is sloted on both sides at an angle to accept the main beams. There is elastic in those openings with snaps to allow the cooler air to stay inside. You can see ice on the bottom and two frozen jugs I had taken out.

Thank you for the reply. That's cool set up.

I do have a soft sided cooler bag that is 17" L x 10" W x 12" H that I could use.

Do you think that would be big enough?

My soft sided cooler bag is 24"L x 10"W x 14"H and is difficult to get a full whitetail or mule deer cape with the head in the bag. If I cut the cape shorter for a shoulder mount then it will fit okay. I think your cooler would work just won't be much room for ice. If the cape is cold then you will be okay. If they have a walkin cooler then I would leave the soft cooler in the cooler till I put the cape/head in it to transport when you are ready to leave.

Learning to cape out a head really simplified the transportation, issues for me. Also it doesn’t require immediate taxidermy hand off.

As far as meat wise if you know how to debone it will lesson cooler capacity needed.

A little dry ice can go a long ways also.
