This is a great thread. The only birds I ever shot "on the wing" is english sparrows and HOSPs. For that i used whatever was in my pocket! I feel like I learned a lot from this thread.
Do ya'll find alot of shot leftover in your birds with the small stuff? How big does your shot need to be so it all can pass through?
He's getting a 20 gauge -- the AA's will be 7/8 oz at no more than 1200 fps (unless the skeet rules have changed since my day shooting the clays). That is still a fine dove load and might shoot a bit tighter/more even pattern than the "crappy dove loads". It won't kill any more doves, however. The AA's might keep an autoloader a bit cleaner.
Henley, if the 1200 FPS was part of the Skeet rules you mention, that was never in the rules, just the shot weight and size. (At least since 1985, can’t speak for before that).
Do not trifle in the affairs of dragons, for thou art crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
Went out yesterday for the season opener. The Montefeltro performed flawlessly. Received many compliments. It’s so light too. Recoil is next to nothing. Hit the limit quickly. The birds were flying. Thanks!
