For years I have wanted to add more power to the standard 5.7 Hemi. I just bought a new Ram 1500 truck and plan to add a supercharger. I think I've decided on the Whipple supercharger. Has anyone added a supercharger to their vehicle and how did you like it? Any issues or problems?

As I understand it, the Whipple system (when open throttle) will add about 7-8 lbs of boost immediately even at low end RPM's. The Pro Charger system needs higher RPM's before it can get up to the 7 lbs of boost. So the Whipple system provides immediate torque on the low end and maintains 7-8 lbs of boost throughout the entire RPM curve. Any feed back would be great! Thanks!

Check the "Ram Forum". There are some recent posts on the Whipple system that might be helpful. I think it was in the 4th generation section.
Hope this helps.

You are correct. A roots style supercharger would be best for a truck that would see medium towing duties. Just know, superchargers generate a lot of heat, and heavy towing or towing at high speeds for extended periods might now be the best idea.

Why? I purchased a warranty that includes full warranty with super charger and lift.

If I remember correctly, you get 12-17 HP for every pound of boost with a supercharger. The motor already has great power, adding a supercharger may put you in "sleeper" status. Let us know when you start smoking mustangs and camaros.

Make sure your fuel system can keep up with the demand. You will probably need larger injectors and/or a larger fuel pump.

What kind of warranty covers an aftermarket supercharger on a stock bottom end?

Why not trade the truck in on one with more power and the Ram boxes you already talked about?

I know Ford will do it with Roush blowers, but I have never heard of FCA offering anything like it.....

Dont get me wrong, I love power, but you already have about 400. What do you need more than that for? If towing, step up to the 3/4 diesel. Otherwise, Id start with some minor mods, a tune, and consider a gear swap to a 3.92 (or lower, if already equipped). Those alone would feel like 75-100hp and wake it up without too much investment.

Go for it, make sure you get one with a good cooling system, as mentioned above the compressed air from superchargers is insanely hot. The cooling system in my Audi is water to air which works wonders after I upgraded to a bigger intercooler

Chad, I had one on my previous 2014 Ram 1500 before it was totaled. While it was a fun addition to the truck I wouldn't personally do it again especially not to a new Ram. The big reasons for that are it was way to easy to light up the rear tires, you also will have to send your PCM in to be unlocked last time I checked this took at least a week to complete. In addition you will also spend quite a bit of time having the engine mapping tuned to where it needs to be throughout your rpm range. Lastly, when you supercharge the ram also it is of benefit to replace your entire exhaust including the headers to facilitate the increases made on the intake side. It also killed my fuel mileage in the truck, granted that was mostly my doing as its hard to keep your foot off the throttle. Just food for thought but when I had it done on that truck I believe I ended up spending about $15,000 to get the truck to where it needed to be. That included parts and labor for the following. ProCharger Supercharger w/ larger injectors and intercooler, Diablo Sport Trinity 2 Tuner, Full Exhaust including headers and 3 inch pipes, Core 4x4 teir 4 upper and lower rear control arms (to aid in keeping traction), and a custom tune for the engine.

A little insight. I sold my 2009 ram TRX and bought a new 2019 ram 1500 4x4 with off road option. It has the 3.92 rear end (which was a requirement). Dodge now offers a warranty where you specify what the warranty covers. When I bought the truck, they talk to you about the warranty and ask you what modifications you plan for. I listed super charger and lift kit (maybe later) for the warranty. The warranty will cover these items as long as it is installed by an ASE shop or mechanic. The warranty also covers the super charger and the full vehicle. I bought it for 72 months and 120,000 miles. Im good for 120k miles.

Im talking to a performance shop now. With the newer fuel injection systems, they are able to get more power out of a vehicle with the tuning. The super charger install will be done professionally and tuned. They have already seen a gain of just over 100 HP and 120 ft lb of torque gain to the rear wheels with super charger alone. I have always wanted to do this and with the warranty purchased, it will certainly happen.

Im just wanting info on super charger info and previous installs.

Have you checked to make sure your fuel system can handle it? Whipple is pretty popular right now, especially the 5th gen liquid cooled setup. But, I know alot of guys in my Mustang community have to at least upgrade their injectors. Just a thought

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ this. a supercharger is a total system, not just a bolt on part. I would love to add one to the coyote but with total cost there is no way I can afford it.

When I turned wrenches at dodge I did head gaskets on a Dakota with the 5.9 that the owner had installed a twin turbo setup on, the stock headbolts couldnt handle the boost, might wanna make sure what the safe spot is when you do this. And run a boost gauge
