30-06 necked up to .358" caliber. What's not to like. For a medium to big game rifle, pushing heavy 200-250 grain bullets, it would do very well. It's a simple round yet very effective. I've been kind of eyeing a 358 Winchester option (necked up 308 Win to .358") for some of the 180-200 grain bullets. It would make for a great larger diameter round that hits hard.

It is a thumper and good round. I have its short action ballistic twin the 350 Remington Magnum and like it. If you reload there are options for going heavy or lighter weight with bullets. I have lower recoil options that I sometimes hunt with using 180gr 357 handgun bullets, those can make a mess on hogs. I have dropped 3 hogs with one shot using 225gr partition bullets at 2700fps. That load has worked great for hogs, whitetail, mule deer and elk. If I ever do the Moose hunt might step up to 250s but then again confident the 225gr would work well for them.

If the options are wide open look at the 338-06. Same principal with better ballistics. It loves 225g bullets. Any heavier and it loses efficiency.

I have one. To 350 yards it’s a drop in the tracks killer I use 225 nosler balllistic tips at 2700 FPS. No blood shot meat. Small hole in and out . Of all my rifles I use it the most.

I had one years ago. Between the fact that it has a lot of recoil and that it’s power isn’t needed for the deer and hogs I shoot, I only owned it a few years. I found that I liked the 200 grain Hornady spire point the best.
