So our baby goes to daycare now since we’ve lost our “reliable” family babysitter services. He has done remarkably well, basically his whole life there. He started at 3 months and he’s now 11 months old. He loves all the ladies in there and they all love him. Some even more than that, so they show him a little more attention. I’m cool with that.
BUT there’s this 1 lady, just as nice as could be. He likes her just as much as the rest of them. Here’s my issue. I don’t know if it’s a cultural thing, a health thing for her, or maybe she’s just lazy about it, I don’t know but good GAWD Almighty she has a tendency to have some serious BO!!! Like underarm BO. I almost have to hold my breath if I have to go into a closed room to pick my kiddo up and she’s the one with him. It’s freakin’ rough sometimes. Here’s the worst part, i know it’s straight to the bath tub for him when she’s there because he ends up smelling like her stinky azz!
Now, this is kid #2 so we’re much more relaxed about things compared to how we were with our first one. You know how that goes. But this makes me question myself as a parent for allowing it and not addressing it sooner with at least the manager of this place. I don’t know if we just feel bad for her? Don’t want it to get blown out of proportion, or what if she can’t help it? The situation sucks but that’s MY kid. We pay dang good freaking money for it while there are lots of people in there riding our coattails for childcare(this is another rant for later) and I just can’t continue this way.
Do I just man up and be blunt about it? We like this place and really can’t afford the high end places yet so we feel stuck here anyway. How would y’all go about this?
Man if I knew what Oxner knows I could throw away what I know

There won’t be an easy way to do it. If it were me, I’d address hygiene with whoever was in charge. It’s a tough situation but I’ve even had to fire someone for the same reason. It’s unprofessional and there is no way they can’t know.

Yep, you gotta go to management. But be as polite about it as possible. Like any other care facility, they know they have you over a barrel and someone with a bad attitude can always cop the "You can always take your kid somewhere else" approach.
One son-in-law always shows his frustration with the daycare staff. While I'm proud of his protectiveness over my granddaughter, it's not the best approach to actually get anything changed or accomplished.

Some cultures do not bathe, at all. They use a wash basin and rag. The only people I know who actually appreciate this is the people who they rent property from. Never ever do they have a problem with their showers or tubs. They also tend to cook with curry and that is a permanent smell.
It’s is unprofessional though when dealing with the public. I would talk to the owner/manager if it was unacceptable to me. They may tell you to walk though so be prepared for that. Nasty as it is it’s not illegal.

Nasty as it is it’s not illegal. Wife and I got on an international flight one time and an entire east-Indian family took their shoes off at once during the pre-flight. The two FRENCH guys in front of us started to gag. Stewardess told them they had to put their shoes back on.

The situation flat out stinks! Your kid shouldn’t be coming home smelling like BO so I’d for sure say something. Agree you need to handle with care, after all, they look after your child. Makes me think of how stinky my clothes get from walking into an allsups with a nasty grease pit. Can’t stand that!

If you aren't prepared to have her and others show less love to your kid and aren't able to go somewhere else, keep your mouth shut and deal with it. Your kid should have a bath when he gets home regardless.

Is it just in the afternoons when you pick him up or have you smelled it when he is dropped off? Not that it would make it any easier to smell, but I would be interested to know if she shows up smelling clean and smells like that after being at work all day.

No she’s never there in the AM hours. Only the afternoon.
Here’s something weird too. Her daughter works there too and and IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! (Beside the point). But she smells damn nice every morning. I wonder if that’s part of my hesitation. I noticed they ride together when they leave for the day. I wish I could ask her, “what’s up with stinky!” Lol

I figure there are three ways to handle this -
1. Rat her out to her supervisor. Highly embarrassing and trust me, she will know it was you. This will poison the relationship for you and her and your kid and her. Bad outcome.
2. Take her aside to a private area but still in view of others and lovingly tell her of your concern. She will be offended, possibly insulted, but that is the best way for her to get the news. No one else has to know of the conversation. Relationship will certainly suffer due to societal differences. Bad outcome.
3. Suck it up. It may get addressed, it may not. But stinky gramma will still treat your child lovingly.
It is not so bad really, the kid doesn’t notice or thinks it is natural. Hang out around me long enough and I’ll blow one that will make you want to bury your nose in her armpit.

Discretely go to management and politely express your concern while noting it is an awkward topic to bring up and you feel bad, but something needs to be done.
Or just start showing up to pic up Junior with a clothespin on your nose.
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

I could provide you with a long list of great things to say or do, but none of them would really help you. Seriously, I don't think I could tell a woman she stunk under these circumstances. Some definitely could, but I don't think I'm one of them. I've gone over a hundred ways to say it in my mind and I can't imagine me saying any of them.

How about "If I had to work with these kids all summer, I would wear out a can of deodorant in no time!" I used a similar line with a guy once, he got the hint. A lady maybe not.
