A favorite topic of Buzz. Savage has a prairie hunter and Mossberg released several options in their MVP series.

Anyone use the Valkyrie on any platform? I know there were issues associated with barrel twist and length with 90 grain projectiles when first released. I think a bolt rifle with 1:7 twist and 20" length would correct many of the early issues with stability.

I know a fast twist 22-250 is a better build. I'm thinking more along the lines of a $700 factory rifle that is suppressor ready and has reasonably priced factory ammo available.

Chad did figure out, on a hand load, it will drive a 75 gr much faster than published data. And he did it in an AR.

Thanks Jason. You have anyone out at your range yet with a Valkyrie?

Not yet. If it's loaded with an 80 gr, it'll get to the end of the range. With a 75 gr, I'll have to watch and see.

If you’re thinking of chunking a 90 gr., why not stick with something easier, like a .243 or 6mm? I’m pushing an 87 gr. VLD 3200 FPS (thanks Chad) at a very accurate 1/2 MOA from a factory 700. Really looking forward to seeing what a Bartlein or other will do.

I'm running a 22" Valkrie AR-15 with 75 grain ELDM at 3050 fps suppressed. It shoots good from the limited testing I have done so far. Some hunting buddies of mine, we all built identical rifles. They wanted to play with the 88 ELDM and 90+ grain bullets. But I have a little Ricky Bobby in me for the rifle, so I've stuck with the 75 grainers at 3000+ fps. I/we killed a pig this weekend with it.

I would LOVE to make a bolt gun in this caliber. With a 22" bolt gun, you will pick up another 100 fps over the AR velocities. If you went with an 18" barrel, you could run the 75 grain ELDM at 3050+ fps easily. If you worked on the magazine for extra length, you could run the bullet out further and gain even more speed and help on accuracy. Anyone in for a group buy on building some Valkrie bolt guns?

Bergara have some faster twists, like 1:9" and 1:10", but not fast enough for the heavies.

I would be interested. I've just about convinced myself I need one.

This would be perfect for my 8 yr old, when he's ready. I could shoot it until then.

Why wouldn’t you just build a .22-250 or .22 Creed?

I'm leaning towards waiting for the Mossberg MVP Predator to be available. It will likely be under $600, threaded, laminate stock and take AR mags I already have with my 6.8.

I'm just looking for something inexpensive and off the shelf (ammo and rifle).

.224 Valkrie is SO yesterday

but with a budget that Mossberge should serve well as a vermint killer

scope? Tasco, Simmons, Vortex Diamondback???? but seriously, Natchez is about giving away scopes. I almost bought the 30mm Weaver they have at half price.

I'm just glad you're back in the "buying" mode !!!!!

Waste of time/money in a bolt gun imo. If you end up not liking it you're stuck with a bolt face that's not very usable for much else.

I could also be in selling mode if you want a deal. I'm thinking about shaving my collection down to get rid of my 6.5x55s, 350 Rem mag and and 7-08. I have too much overlap.
