I was tempted to roll out of equity but just couldn't pull the trigger.

Not sure what you mean by "roll out of equity". Sell, take profits and move to cash? Or vice versa?

I'm 100 % equity in my IRA. I considered rolling all or part on it into fixed income.

Sounds like you think the market might be over-heated and you're a little spooked by that?

Might as well keep it 100%. You don't need the money....

Bingo. Should have asked my favorite moderator Sniper John. While many of us rode the last correction aka crash down Sniper John posted that he bailed out @ 17,000. He later rolled back into equity. Look what he posted on another thread.

Well, back in my trading days, when we had a big winning position, we’d sell 1/3. If the market went down, we’d hold the rest. If the market went up significantly, we’d sell another third. We’d hold the rest.

Never assume that you are at the bottom or the top of a market. My suggestion to Bill is to sell 1/3 or something less and hold the rest. It’ll make you feel like you are proactive, and at worst can do you no harm. It’s a low risk move. And if the market slumps, you can strut around and lord it over us.

Me, I’m holding and not selling.

At your age, you should only hold 20-30% equity, unless you plan to live till 115 of age, which I wish You could.
Out of these %, please invest in Heineken, or at least drink that nasty beer, it will help me out.

Its all about timing and luck
I know a guy who sold everything with a 60% loss in 2008 thinking it could go even lower.
He invested it all into a hunting lodge n of Bowie who went bust due to unforeseen circumstances and the ducks simply not going there anymore. He later died from cancer and stress.

Be careful out there. Life can change in a SNAP if you don't diversify adequately.
Don't follow your instincts, follow common sense and get professional help.

Or he does not need the money at all, and plans on passing it down to his daughter, so he is effectively investing long term for her.

It's also important to remember that investing through a 401(k) or other retirement savings account should be seen as a long-term plan. It's impossible to predict future market returns, and investors should expect to experience both rises and dips in the market.

Here's how much you need to put away to save $2 million by age 65.

If you start at age 25:

With a 4% rate of return: $1,686.48 per month (exceeds the $19,000 annual limit)
Annual salary needed if you save 10% of your income: $202,377.73
Annual salary needed if you save 15% of your income: $134,925.24
With a 6% rate of return: $1,004.27 per month
Annual salary needed if you save 10% of your income: $120,512.74
Annual salary needed if you save 15% of your income: $80,345.84
With an 8% rate of return: $572.90 per month
Annual salary needed if you save 10% of your income: $68,748.06
Annual salary needed if you save 15% of your income: $45,834.33

If you start at age 30:

With a 4% rate of return: $2,188.83 per month (exceeds the $19,000 annual limit)
Annual salary needed if you save 10% of your income: $262,659.38
Annual salary needed if you save 15% of your income: $175,115.01
With a 6% rate of return: $1,403.79 per month
Annual salary needed if you save 10% of your income: $168,455.30
Annual salary needed if you save 15% of your income: $112,309.15
With an 8% rate of return: $871.88 per month
Annual salary needed if you save 10% of your income: $104,626.11
Annual salary needed if you save 15% of your income: $69,754.23

If you start at age 40:

With a 4% rate of return: $3,890.07 per month (exceeds the $19,000 annual limit)
Annual salary needed if you save 10% of your income: $466,808.42
Annual salary needed if you save 15% of your income: $311,221.17
With a 6% rate of return: $2,886.03 per month (exceeds the $19,000 annual limit)
Annual salary needed if you save 10% of your income: $346,323.36
Annual salary needed if you save 15% of your income: $230,893.79
With an 8% rate of return: $2,102.99 per month (exceeds the $19,000 annual limit)
Annual salary needed if you save 10% of your income: $252,358.93
Annual salary needed if you save 15% of your income: $168,247.70

Another day. Another record. The thing about all those charts is that your savings keep growing after you retire.

Looks like the feds are gonna lower interest rates...But remember with the government over spending they will need a correction. Our country owes too much money!
