Has anyone used a pop up blind while gun hunting? I located a spot on our lease that appears to have a lot of potential. It sits between two oat fields and has a fair amount of cover. The area will not take a lot of pressure as it is only about 30 acres. Wind direction will be critical as well. How much in advance should I place the blind prior to hunting out of it? My thoughts were to place a pop up blind a few weeks prior to when I plan on hunting this spot and if conditions are right, give it a try.

You got cattle on the place? If you do, you may have a problem with them messing with it. Make sure its tied down good. And yes at least a week in advance before hunting out of it.

I would advise you to put it up atleast a week before. However, I killed my biggest buck to date (13 pt, scored 156 3/8) out of pop-up blind. I had seen this buck the evening before from about 700 yards away. I set up the pop-up blind that night and killed him the next morning from a shot of around 50 yaards!! Of course, he was chasing a doe and it was foggy that morning but......I GOT HIM!!

The hunting show experts always say brush in a turkey blind but not necessary on deer. If you can place it beside some brush or back it up to some your good. I think pop-ups are best for those tight secluded places wher you havev limited vision anyway, thus your pop-up simply camos you. Watch out for the blind spots once your in because that's what blows the pop-up is limited vision.

We use pop-up blinds heavily in our operation because we have to move around alot. The biggest issue is wind. If you leave them up and a 25 MPH wind comes through, it's toast. We've learned to put them up in the dark so they can be deployed morning of the hunt. If you are not going to need a mobile blind, you might consider a more permanent structure using blind cloth and t-posts.

Do you not have a ladder stand or a tripod you could set up somewhere on the place? Just asking. Trying to get a description of the spot you want to hunt. I dind't know if you had oaks in this area or hackberry trees or elms that you could set up in instead.

I put one out and rattled a buck to a few feet of me the first night. Pretty amazing. Other deer would stare at me and walk on. Did have a few blow and stomp though but it could have been scent which wouldn't matter how long it had been there. I hunted with all the windows open.

Like mentioned here, if wind gets up or a storm comes it will be gone.

I've shot several deer from pop up blinds, makes me no expert by any means, but I tend to use them more towards the end of season when it doesn't feel like I'm sitting in an oven.

We used them for the first time last year in Kansas and they worked great.

Pop ups are one of the best tools a hunter can use. They are especially good for hunting on open wheat fields.

I got the new Primos Vision blind last year before deer season. I shot 2 hogs and my wife shot this 8 point out of it with both of us in the blind together! I put it up on the edge of a field the night before and the buck came strollin across the field the next morning. Had no idea what hit him...

I have used them for a few years now and have had good luck with them.

what Curtis said about the cows - they ate mine up in no time. also try and put it in some cover to help break up the silhouette. i really think a good pop-up blind is great. you can move it according to wind direction and such. i use some shooting sticks when hunting w/ a rifle. also, you still need to keep your scent in check - a lot of them advertise that they provide scent protection, but when you have 2-3 windows open your scent will be flowing.

they work fine put them up week in advance, use scent control of somekind and plain common scents

IMO theres no way of taking all 100% of the human oder away
pop ups are great i like to where black in mine becuase it blends in better with the shadows

Saw one on sale at Dick's last week. I don't recall the exact price or camo pattern, but I remember thinking I really oughta get it at that price. Then I got distracted by a nice Savage .22 and forgot to get the blind...
