I find almost all hotel rooms too cold! I turn the temperature up to 70 to 72.

Same. I always sleep better when it’s cold and I’m bundled up. I think that’s part of my problem at home. Wife doesn’t like sleeping in the cold. Doesn’t want the air down to low, wants lots of covers, and she wears lots of clothes. That, coupled with someone being next to me producing more heat, makes it tough. When I travel for work, I set that thermostat low, sleep in my skivvies and don’t have someone else in the bed producing body heat.

I think that’s the key.

@Txhogslayer, I can’t agree more btw. I truly believe lack of good sleep ages the body exponentially faster. Look at me, I’m really 23. I just tell y’all I’m 38 and look at all this dang gray hair and bags under the eyes

I stayed at the JFK Marriott one year just after labor day. Room was way to warm and wouldn't cool down. I called the desk to report it and they said that they turn all AC off after Labor Day and I should just open the window!!! If you opened the window it sounded like a jet was landing in your room every few seconds it seemed. That was probably 20 or so years ago and to say I wasn't happy would have been an understatement. Would have been much worse if I had been paying for it myself.

I rarely stay in hotels/motels whatever you wanna call them. When I do I usually don't sleep good the first night but then sleep great after that. That's the way I am though no matter where I sleep if it aint my usual bed. First night is always tossing and turning and then I am good after that. Even that way at the deer lease. I do like it COLD though. Some of my best sleep ever was in the bed of a pick up truck with frost on the sleeping bag when I wake up. I pretty much don't even use a heater unless it gets into the low 20's.

4-5 hours straight is all I get in a hotel, kills me. I've tried self medication via otc meds and alcohol, nothing works. I think it's more of a mental thing on not wanting to be late to customer meetings the next day.

You need to find better hotels, I've never had a problem with slamming doors.

Also, always choose top floor, no one above you to make noise

If the ac stays where you set it, I sleep fair, but the energy management systems with motion sensors hack me off. You go to bed with the room cool, and wake up at 3:00 am and the ac is back at 78

Hotel thermostats are rigged. I’m staying in the Homewood Suites in Irving right now. Thermos set on 70 at night with a ceiling fan. If I set my home thermostat on 70 It would be much colder than the hotel. Many hotel hvac systems have motion sensors. At night they change the setting if you don’t move.

The hotel thermostats read colder than actual which many devices are capable of doing. Thank the global warming asshats for this.

Take a thermometer with you if you don’t believe me.

Prior to retirement I stayed in hotels 270 nights a year.

That really is an insane amount of hotel stays. How did you justify rent or a mortgage? What did you do for work?

I worked for a chemical company in operations. My title was operations specialist. I commissioned new plants, fixed broken plants, trained operators and managers.

US, Canada, Mexico.

It was tough on the marriage but she didn’t mind the money.

I favored Hilton hotels. If I turned in a bad review the Hilton VP of marketing would call me to find out what happened and ask me what they could do to make it up.

I regularly saw people who I met traveling in different airports, even in customs lines. Custom agents knew me by sight.

Top floor as close to the stairs as possible and furthest from the elevators. Most people move like a drunken elephant with a wooden leg.
AC has to be set lower than home because the rooms have no air circulation.
I prefer Hamptons (part of Hilton hotels). The major Hilton corporation has an anti-gun policy with 30.06 signs on all the Texas Hilton hotels.

Room location certainly helps. Top floor away form the elevators helps.
I have stayed at some of the most high end hotels in this country. Noisy/disrespectful people are at all levels.
The closers on hotel doors now days just make them slam. I will hold the door and let it close easy.

I think I sleep better because I probably have a good buzz, I eat later and I have the whole bed to myself when traveling for work.

I generally sleep much better, especially if I am alone. I too turn the thermostat down to it's lowest temp, which helps a ton. I have also found that the quality of beds/pillows vary a lot by hotel. Most of the 5 star hotels (JW Marriott, Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, etc.) I visit give me the best sleep, because their AC combined with bed and pillow is top notch. When I stay at budget places (Best Western, Holiday Inn, Courtyard Marriott) I don't sleep quite as well.

Worst thing for me is a smelly pillow. Few and far between, but call and instantly get a replacement.

Didn’t vote. I keep the bedroom at 64 and the central air on 73. I always sleep good.
