Looking for a bolt-action .22LR plinker in the $400 range. Both of the referenced guns have piqued my interest. What does the THF have to say about either? Also interested in any other suggestions for bolt guns in that same price range.
I did see that the CZ has a dovetail scope mount where the Ruger has a rail. My past experiences with dovetail rimfire rifles were not positive, but perhaps things have changed in the last 20 years.

Without owning or shooting either, i'd go Ruger Precision Rimfire. I like the little features that make it a training rifle, especially for those who have a full size RPR which I don't.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

I own both, and I’d go CZ 455 without hesitation. The Ruger is a lot of fun, but the CZ gets the nod from an accuracy standpoint. DIP makes picatinny rails for the CZ to convert it from the dovetail, which is what I did on mine.

Are you talking about the Ruger Precision Rimfire or the Ruger American Rimfire Target?
I have the RART and love it. It shoots lights out with Wolf Match. Has a threaded barrel from factory. Decent stock, not great.

Was looking at the Precision Rimfire, but after looking at the RART, it's on my list as well.

Was looking at the Precision Rimfire, but after looking at the RART, it's on my list as well. I did a stock change to mine. Added the Boyds AT-ONE stock and love it. Have to work on the barrel channel a little, when I bought mine they didn't have one for the target barrel.

You might consider the Tikka T1X. Most accurate 22 I’ve ever owned, by far.

I own a 455 that I put in an AT/1 stock like KRoyals. They are very accurate, if you buy I recommend the varmit model which is what I have.

I have the Precision Rimfire and so far the best accuracy is with S&K+, and CCI SV pretty close second at 50 yards. I can tell already this is not going to get anywhere close to what an Annie is capable of, at 100 yards but, at 50 yards, it can outshoot some Annie owners that look down their nose, if ya know what I mean. I know it is going to be a fun gun,and that is really what I want it for, but ,I'd like to use the 30MOA rail for what it's for, 200-250 yards playing. With that rail my scope has plenty of elevation to get there.
If there had been a CZ 457 in stock when I bought this one, I would have bought it instead, but, there wasn't. They did have a 455 varmint that would have cost $150 more and I didn't think it was worth it. Now that the 457's are finding stores, I now see 455's for $400 and under. For that price, I would go CZ, and may still end up with one. I just don't like the price of their mags and not crazy about the bolt throw of the 455 and having to use alot higher rings. I know several that have the 455 varmint and they are extremely accurate and most those that shoot them are sub MOA at 100 yards.
In a nutshell, for about the same price point, IMO, the CZ is going to be the most accurate 10 times out of 10.
BTW, I went to 2 gun shows to see if ANYONE even had a Savage B series with the heavy barrel for sale. There wasn't. It was on my list too and would still like to try one of those.

I have two CZ 455s: 22LR and 22WMR. Both are very accurate and look excellent in their thumbhole stocks (both are the varmint model). Bolts are good. I looked at the Ruger but it just seems too "something" to me? (Too much going on?, too small? Couldn't put my finger on it.) Have scopes on both of the 455s and the dove tail was not an issue. I used rings. If I were to buy one today I would probably get a UTG picatinny rail for a dove tail.
It's not what you say, or think, that counts. It is what you DO!

I was wrong...on anything technical. Fitz............. is right, ya know............

Went with a Tikka T1X. DIP Picatinny rail, Vortex rings, and a Nikon scope that has been languishing in my safe for a few years. Have 1K rounds of Wolf Match Extra to send downrange, along with a variety of CCI, Federal, and Remington ammo. Range report to follow when I get a chance to go shoot.

I think you will be happy with the Tikka. I’m real happy I bought one.
