Wanting to take the kids to Disney. What’s the youngest age to take them? I have a 5 and 2 year old.

5 at the youngest depending on the kid.

Mine were 5 and 7 and they could walk all day and ride everything.

They also remember it.

We went back a second time at ages 7-9

I see no point in spending that kind of money to take a 1-4 year old who wont remember it and can't do most of it.

If you plan on going every year i guess it wouldn't matter but if it's a 1-2 time thing then wait.

Took our daughter when she was 3. She's almost 7 now and doesn't remember much of the trip.

I waited til mine was 5. Wanted her to remember and be a tad more mobile. She still thought the Polynesian hotel pool was the coolest thing at Disney! bang

7 or 8, anything younger and you could probably take them to a city park and pass it off as Disney. We took 3 kids to Sea World, they 5, 6 and 7, the 5 and 6 year old have almost no memory of it. 30 years later the 7 year old remembers it and also remembers how hot and miserable she was.

I think 6+ is good. Every kid is different though. We left our 1 yo at the house with the MiL last year.
Oh, and my favorite ride is the AA flight back.

Disney is a racket. They might as well have a large vacuum cleaner at the Orlando airport and you just open your wallet and let it suck. All our kids went with their grandparents. banana So I'm a terrible parent, I can live with that.

We took ours when I think they were 5&7, maybe 4&6. One thing I will recommend for that age, rent strollers. I was against getting one for my older daughter, but after the first day of dragging her along and pushing our son, we got her one for the rest of the days. It makes all the difference in the world when you are trying to haul butt and get from one side of the park to the other. It was also handy to drag around all the miscellaneous junk you will pick up.

Thanks,
Rich

My niece cut out the bottom of a pair of sandals and glued them to the bottom of her kiddo's shoes when they went to the park. She was just tall enough to ride all the rides. My niece is a sneaky one but she's not about to let a little rule get in her way of fun.

I took a 2 and 5 year old last July,

Couple mistakes
A) July was hot and humid to a new level of hell
B) kids where beat by lunch due to heat
C) couldn’t ride most the fun rides(sort of a bonus because you didn’t have to wait in line then)
D)6 is min age I’d do if I was to do it again

My 2cent at the very least don’t go until early spring when it’s coolers.

If we are talking the best time to go..

Go the first two weeks of December. It was great! Good weather, they have all of the Christmas stuff going and not very crowded.

We also went in January and it's the start of summer for South America and it was pretty crowded.

If we go back it'll be December again.

what is the minimum height for most of the rides? I have and 8 & 4 yr old and will probably do it when the youngest is 6/7 but both my boys are borderline midgets.

We've been to Disney 3 times and one Disney cruise. Youngest was 3 and he was able to ride most rides at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios except the bigger rollercoasters. We always take a stroller because even the older kids want to take a break and just ride every once in a while. We did a short 3 day Disney cruise and then followed up with a few days at the parks which I think was the best way to do it, and the kids had a blast. Doing the same thing again later this year and will probably be our last one unless we decide to go again when they get older and can do all the bigger rides. If you want it to be easy as possible then 6 years old is a good age.

I will agree that you shouldn't go in the summer. Our trips were April, October, and late September.

We took our daughter for the first time at 5 and I regret not going sooner. Your kids will have a blast and the joy you see from your kids enjoying "the magic" is worth the cost. Disney gets a bad reputation for the money, but it's honestly not that much more than other vacations if you do it right. If you stay at the Grand Floridian an Polynesian you are going to pay a truck load, but cheaper hotels such as Port Orleans and Pop Century are nice and much more affordable. As a family we absolutely love Disney now now go at least once a year. For your kids I 100% suggest a stroller as our daughter can last from park open to park closing that way. Some days we will take a break and hang out at the hotel just depends on what park we are at and how we are feeling. As for height when we took our daughter at 5 (and small for her age) she only couldn't ride the Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom and the big roller coasters at the other parks, basically rides she probably wouldn't ride even if she was tall enough. There aren't many thrill rides at Disney so the majority do not have any real height restrictions. Another perk of taking your kids now is you do not have to follow a school schedule. The week after Thanks giving is our favorite time to go as crowds are manageable weather is nice and they are decorated for Christmas. If pools is a big appeal for your family we have swam in November with no issues, but I would suggest first week of May. Also low crowds weather is mid 80's so not super hot and the pools feel great.
