One of the best all-around cartridges, particularly in TX.

You will get tons of good responses from on here im pretty sure. I am considering getting one as a back up to my deer rifle and maybe get into a little recreational/competition shooting with it.

If I had to run only one centerfire rifle cartridge for the rest of my days, it would be a coin toss.
7mm-08 7mm-08 Ackley improved
It does EVERYTHING well. Mass produced ammo is neutered compared to what it can do on a hand load. I've probably put more animals on the ground with it than any other cartridge (except prairie dogs).

Love mine. Hits deer like Thor's Hammer! You got that confused....the 28 Nosler is Thor's hammer....the 7-08 is like Thor's son's hammer. 7-08 is tough to beat, I think I'll probably always have at least one.

The rifle is a ruger 77 hawk eye, with a Leupold 3x9 on top. $500 dollars brought it home. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse. 😬

The only thing I’ll agree with the Fireman on is it’s a great caliber and if I had only one that would be IT. It’s the best short action caliber out there. I’ve had to kill the unfortunate deer that walked up while I was cooking at the house the last few years with my 22-250 because one of the boys was borrowing my 7-08. I remember when the 7-08 came out. A buddy and I were killing does on a 100K acre place south of Sanderson. He was always shot a 300 win mag and I shot a 270. We were making bets on does at distances with the 22-250. He had a model 7, 7-08 next to his seat. A big buck jumped up in the brush and he handed me that little 08. I waited until he passed a mesquite and leveled him running. I hit him a little too far back and rolled him with a neck shot when he tried to get up. He was a ways out and my buddy was yelling that it drops just like a .243. That sold me on the 7-08.

If Momma hunts you might have just bought her a new rifle. Know quite a few ladies that hunt with the 7mm-08.
I think you will like the 7mm-08, I have not been without at least 1 since 1982, and while other caliber rifles come and go there will be a 7mm-08 close at hand at my house as long as I am around

I had zero experience with the 7mm-08 until I bought my 10 year old son one. Liked it so much I bought my wife one. About to buy my youngest son a browning 7mm-08
Great deer caliber. Only had 1 animal get away ( a Aoudad my wife shot dead center of the neck at 50 yards ) everything else has been laid over smooth or followed up with a very short tracking job.
We are taking hers to Africa here in a few weeks to test it against Zebra, Kudu and Nyala. I expect it to perform well.
Its probably the greatest caliber I will never own, as I started with a .270 and have a stable of faster and bigger cartridges, but the 7mm-08 won't let you down, from the Brush Country of South Texas to the Mountains of Colorado.
If I was starting over, I could replace the .270 with a 7mm-08 and never notice the difference, other than having it in a lighter and handier rifle
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

7mm-08 is the best use of a 308 case.

I'm waiting for the 7mm Creedmor. It has a cooler name. Point of diminishing returns. I think the 1 grain or so less capacity than the 08 is enough to kill it. The 7-08 with the heavier bullets can be pushed to perfection, 1 grain less???? Anyway, sorry I know you was speaking in jest.

Yes, that's why it's a bad idea.
Want a sexy shoulder angle, 7mm short action? Have dee and I ever talked about a 7mm-08 A.I. ?
