I have a Pudelpointer female, official hip scored, navhda natural ability tested. Thinking about breeding her once she comes into season. Was wondering how hard it would be to sell the pups?

I would take a couple if you’re giving them away.

Purpose for breeding?

What scores did you get in NAVHDA?

Are there any genetic tests that need to be done for the breed besides hips?

OFA eyes and elbows?

I'm sure you could get rid of the pups no problem but that shouldn't be your primary concern.

Raising a litter is no joke. A lot can go wrong. What if something happens to your girl?

Are you prepared to care for an entire litter of pups with Parvo?

Everything might go smoothly but you better be prepared for the things that can go wrong.

Would it be an alliance sanctioned breeding?

This was my question... Pudlepointers have done probably the best at instilling real quality control to the breed.

Call your breeder and talk to them about it

Get your NA scored from Navhda, make sure they meet criteria for breeding

Find a male with the best scores in his pups you can, talk to his owner/breeder

QUALITY pp pups will have NO problem finding homes

Aggie, a NAPPA sanctioned breeding? What is the quality level of the bitch? With most PP breeders, a qualifying NA score does not necessarily mean a bitch will be bred, but qualifies it for further consideration. After NA testing, Utility testing usually follows, as well as extensively hunting the dog for a couple of years to more accurately select the best to breed to the best. If you own a Pudelpointer you most likely already know that a qualifying NA score does not necessarily indicate a breeding quality dog.

A top performing dog today looks and performs much the same as they did 50 years ago. In the majority of breeds, the gap between the best and lowest performing dogs within a litter is fairly wide. That is why you commonly hear dog men discuss how much of a crap shoot picking a puppy is. By utilizing the testing of a high percentage of the pups, Pudelpointer breeders have raised the bar to consistently produce registered liters where the gap from the best to worst performing dogs within a litter are far smaller. In turn substantially increasing the odds for prospective puppy buyers to end up with a hunting dog that possess above average talent. (This is what lead me to the breed.)
A puppy from NAPPA sanctioned breeders, produced following their breeding goals, usually have a waiting list in excess of a year.
