https://www.yahoo.com/gma/former-sh...ting-203100791--abc-news-topstories.htmlA former Florida sheriff's deputy has been arrested on felony charges over his handling of the deadly mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland last year. Broward County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Scot Peterson, 56, was terminated from his position and charged with multiple counts of child neglect on Tuesday after an internal investigation found that he retreated while students were under attack in the February 2018 shooting, that left 17 people dead. Internal investigators claimed Peterson “did absolutely nothing to mitigate the MSD shooting,” according to a statement. He faces seven counts of neglect of a child, three counts of culpable negligence and one count of perjury.

In other words, he was a cowart. Know a retired policeman that basically did the same thing. Most cops are brave and courageous but there are a few!

Is this the Guy his Sheriff defended?
Seems like I recall the Sheriff defending that deputy for not taking action a news conference

He probably talked real big on internet forums about what a bada** he was.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I did not know that being a coward in that situation could be considered a felony. Not defending the guy, just surprised.

Not defending the guy, just surprised. “If” all is true from what I recall, he deserves more than what he is being charged with. I think this is the guy who did nothing and soon retired afterwards His position he held doesn’t allow that

In his defense....multiple court rulings have upheld that the police have NO obligation to intervene....
The leftist media will ignore this fact...

Hence the 2nd Amendment..... Yep, it’s gone all the way to the SCOTUS so I think this will get tossed but it’s going to cost him some money.

Hence the 2nd Amendment..... Yep, it’s gone all the way to the SCOTUS so I think this will get tossed but it’s going to cost him some money. Professor Volokh has a different take. UPDATE: Some readers brought up the cases holding that the police can't be sued by people whom they failed to protect for failing to protect them; that is indeed well-settled, but that simply reflects that the police don't have such a privately enforceable obligation to the public. This case raises a different question: whether the government, as the representative of the public, can prosecute police officers for failing to perform their duties to the public.
In a sense, this is similar to the issue raised in the title of the post (though I realize that the analogy between police officers and soldiers is necessarily highly imperfect): Though surely cowardly soldiers can't be sued by fellow soldiers or members of the public, the military can prosecute for this. The question is whether a criminal law obligation would apply to the police officers, not whether the police officers can be sued by particular individuals for breaching any such obligation.] https://reason.com/volokh

Yeah, but that isn't what we sign up for. It's okay to be scared (if you say you never get scared you are either a liar or stupid) but as police officers we are expected to act. I have known some annoying officers over the years but never a coward. This guy was simply a coward and his failure to perform his duty got people killed.

We are taught these terms in EMS.
Misfeasance: the wrongful performance of a normally lawful act; the wrongful and injurious exercise of lawful authority
Malfeasance: the performance by a public official of an act that is legally unjustified, harmful, or contrary to law; wrongdoing (used especially of an act in violation of a public trust)
Neglect: to fail to carry out or perform orders, duties
Carry that over to a structure fire, and we are sitting outside with 4 fire engines, 1 truck, and 2 ambulances, and we do nothing.
He is a disgrace to the badge.

Last night, a Brevard County deputy was shot multiple times after responding to a disturbance. However, he finished the fight and killed the bad guy. At the hospital the deputy told the sheriff, "I won." That's the way to do it.
