Only to a very good friend that also owns bird dogs. Guns, trucks, etc get loaned out before dogs.

If it meant my dogs getting bird exposure and getting out into the field when I couldn't? Sure, absolutely. Now, I can count on one hand how many of my friends I'd let take them out. But I would.
Say When.....

There was a time I would have loaned one out to a good friend. I've had 3 dogs die, (not hunting related) in the past 3 years. I'm pretty protective of the hunting one I have now. There is not many people I will let shoot over her, much less loan her out.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

I used to loan mine out constantly during college. I was the only one of my friends with a dog worth a darn, and he was in high demand. I had strict rules for those borrowing him, and if they weren't followed, they lost the right to borrow him. And they had to have hunted with me a handful of times prior so I knew I could trust them with him and knew all his commands. If they did anything I didn't agree with, they didn't get to hunt with him. I was proud to be able to have a dog universal enough to loan out. And I felt like he became a much greater dog because he got on so many birds so regularly.
Now that he passed last year and I don't have a bird dog anymore, I rely on the grace of others. Luckily, my boss has been gracious enough to loan me his Griffon.
Trust is a fickle thing. and its a bummer many of you don't have anyone you can trust your dogs with.

No. There’s some friends I might trust that much, but they are not bird hunters. Still don’t know if I would do it. She is not super fond of anyone who isn’t her family so I’m pretty sure it might do her more harm than good. Dogs are like not chainsaws or trailers.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

No way in H would I lend a dog to anyone I don't completely trust. There are three people that I would, and one of them is my brother. And my son is not one of the others cuz he is still a knucklehead.

Yea, I have several friends that I would loan my Brittany to in a heartbeat, In fact, I would be pissed if I found out they needed a dog and did not ask. I would ask these same guys to hunt my dog, if I found myself having unable to hunt for much of a season.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

I would or will loan mine out to a handfull of friends anytime. Not just anybody but these are guys who know how to handle dogs and also respect others property. I have 2 friends who I have loaned or borrowed hog dogs from and we are all on the same page. They have gotten my dogs cut up or killed and I have done the same with theirs. Nothing good or bad happens with a dog just sitting in a kennel.

Absolutely no. Not ever.
I'll put it another way: Would you take out a loan to save your dog's Life?

Never had a dog anyone would want to borrow but the answer would be no. I did have a horse years ago that was pretty much auto-pilot when roping or penning cattle. I'd get a call, "Hey, we're penning cattle next week, can you come?" If I couldn't make it the next question would be, "Well, can your horse come?". I loaned him out one time. Closest I ever came to killing a man out of anger. They rode him hard for four days rotating riders. When I got him back the main cinch was two holes shorter.

No matter how hard a man tries he can never love his dog as much as his dog loves him. My buddy Ozzy doesn't get in the truck unless I'm driving...so its a hard NO

I'd love to watch a good dog work. Never got to experience it other than TV. No way I'd even think of taking on that liability of borrowing one.

I've had dogs I would loan to a trusted friend before. My current dog is a Jagd Terrier and she is too violent to non family members and other dogs to loan out. If I trust a friend, I trust him with anything he might need that I can spare.
God is so good to me.

Had a friend that used to send a couple pointers with me for the weekend. He had too many to hunt in one weekend, so I’d run a couple of the extras that needed some work. I was always nervous about losing one, this was before I had a GPS collar. Did have an e-collar, so tried to keep them reined in close enough to see them work out of the Bronco.
