Awesome! I love a good PDog shoot. I've been going on an annual PDog trip for several years now and it's a blast. Headed in a couple of weeks myself. I gave up on trying to use a rangefinder a long time ago. Nothing will make you at better shot than field judging distances/ windage, and shooting 500-1000 rounds on small random targets over a two day window. After a lot of trial I have found that a 223 is the best caliber for me, as it does not fatigue me, shoots flat, and allows me to stay on the scope so that I can see the vapor trails and impacts. The 223 VMax will absolutely hammer them. I keep my PDog rifles sighted in at 250, which places me within 4" from 0-350. Then I use the hashes within the reticle to quickly dope past that. Make your way into the upper panhandle and you can really let them fly! Last year several of us had our elevations bottomed out, on 20 MOA rails.

I use a 204 ruger with a thumb hole stock. We also take shooting benches to set up on the field. Just foldable plastic ones. Just throw them in the back of the truck. Much better than laying prone like it seemed you were doing, more comfortable anyway. My farthest with the 204 was just a tad over 600 yds, got lucky lol. I also have a 6-24 scope on it.

there were a few dog towns in S.W. Ks when I was growing up, all I had was a 22lr, didn't kill a lot, had a lot of fun trying to put the sneak on them

Agreed! I eventually got a good understanding of the field. But those tiny targets sure can test your skills beyond mpbr. Learned a lot. Itching to go again!

After doing some ballistic search I am favoring the 22-250 more.
We actually had a shooting bench I just prefer to shoot probe.
Having a small native zoom on scope like a 4 was still even tough to find those little goof balls!!!

22-250 is one of my favorite calibers. I have spent a lot of time behind one on the PDog range and ultimately ended up back to a 223. Over the years I have tried a little of everything trying to find the best way to kill them lol... 204, 222, 22 Hornet, 223, 22-250, 22BR, 243, 6.5CM, and 308. The challenge I personally had with the 22-250 is that they kick you off the scope just enough to miss the impact. You end up needing a spotter to call your shots, and watching the flight path and impact is most of the fun for me. I have found that in a strong West Texas cross wind, a heavier bullet like a 243 can really help past about 600yrds, but it's not necessary. It can be a lot of fun hooking a light bullet light a 22-250 or 223 into them. You also have to watch out for the barrel burn on the 22-250. They will chew barrels in no time if you start throwing 500 rounds an outing down them, and at close to a $1 a shot the costs can add up quickly. I now shoot the Fiocchi VMax ammo, it is a great buy and I have found it to be very accurate.

If you decide to move to a bench one day, I would suggest a hard look at the DOA Tactical benches. Again, I have tried numerous benches over the years, and that's the only one I have found stable enough for the distance shots. Nothing worse than a wobble in your bench when you're shooting targets half the size of a soda can, in a wind storm. lol. Most of those fields are so flat that a lot of time it's hard to get visibility laying on the ground. You really open your world up, when you move to a bench.

Again, there's no right or wrong. These are just some of my personal experiences over the years. Take care!

went last year, had to go to New mexico to find decent towns. damm little things are smart !!! We would pull up to a field with a bunch of dogs at 50 yards, stop the truck, 100 yards, open the gate, 200 yards, set up benches, 300 yards, start shooting 400 yards.

had the same issues as OP, Its great to have a spotter, you just need to make sure you're both on the same doggie

Where did you find your 22 Creed. The only place I located them were over 4-5K customer builds.
