I have a place to hunt where I cannot leave a a treestand or tripod on the property, but I need an elevated hunting position. My hike in is 200-400 yards depending on where I would like to setup. So that isn't something I can do from the truck. A tree climber is out of the question because the trees there are not suitable in size, or are of size but would need major trimming (also not allowed). There is no reasonable way for me to transport in and build and then takedown a tripod like you would do with a more permanent tripod setup. Anybody use a man portable tripod or similar stand? I have seen a couple advertised online, but I dubious of their user-friendliness. Doesn't have to be super tall. Even 6-8 elevation would be a benefit.

Portability is relative but I have one you could consider. South Texas Tripods and Feeders are all pretty much the same but come in various heights. About 6' to the base is lowest. They are excellent. Chuck Cashdollar has owned and operated for at least 35 years. Hes outa Spring but ships anywhere. Hiking with one 400 yards would not be fun but it would be doable. If there is one any more portable it would be my guess that I wouldn't have the shooting rail this one has. im not sure if you mean you have to carry in for every hunt. If you just have to carry in once a season then these could easily work. I think Texas Hunter used to make something kinda light. I own a bunch of them(STx) so holler if you want anymore feedback. Chuck used to make one out of aluminum but he stopped I think. Good luck.

I use a hawk hunt pods. They are designed to be mobile. I didn’t purchase the wheel kit when I got the tripod so I’m n the process of making the wheel mounts.
I’d recommend the hunt pod if you can find one.

Looked up that Hawk Hunt Pod and it looks like it might be a good option for you. I assume its primarily for bow hunting since I didn't notice any type rest for a rifle. I guess you could rig something up. Also the chair doesn't appear to swivel at all so pretty much one directional hunting which is often fine for most.

Free range you are 100% correct. There is no swiveling chair, or rest. I use shooting sticks and adjust for the shot. Ive attached a pic of what I did for wheels. A pair of lawn and garden wheels are around $60 plus. I bought a bike for $20 thinking I could get something done. I gave up and made a mount for the forks and the front tire. It seems to work good, I just finished this morning so who knows.....

Dustin, that is a nice rig. I don't know how that will get me the elevation I need or even where I would sit in it, but that is a nice rig.
Choctaw, thank you. That looks interesting!

I have a folding all aluminum tripod that was my dads. He had this thing back in the early to mid 80's. Could easily carry this thing as far as needed, seat height is about 12'. I don't know if they still make them or not but I know they did. He got it from somewhere in south Texas back when we were hunting in Mathis, TX.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

I use one of the Millennium T-100 aluminum stands as well. The seat is very comfortable, and it's very quiet when you want to turn. There's also a locking mechanism on the seat base so you can position it in-line with the steps and climb in/out without the seat trying to turn on you. There's a rifle rest that comes with it, but you can install it upside down to make it a foot rest (video on youtube of someone demonstrating this).
Best feature of all: cows leave it alone -- I've had cows destroy every hand-made or store bought ground blind on my lease, but they're either oblivious to the tripod or they choose to ignore it.
