I am in lockhart, black gumbo soil. Anyone planted the Beewild from Pogue? Any tips ect did animals eat it? Have high fence NO cattle only deer/ exotics. they advertise it as for quail deer and exotics with over 20% protein values thru the summer. Thanks for any help and if you know of something better would appreciate the advice.

Yes I have planted it once in La Salle County about 15 yrs ago and this spring here on my place in Goliad County. A neighbor about 3 miles south of me planted it two years ago. I planted about 3 acres in La Salle county and it came up great. The deer hit it hard but it was a wet year, so it got a chance to establish. The biggest issue was that buffelgrass took over that plot. Between that and the deer it only lasted about 1.5 yrs. My neighbor planted his in the spring and it came up but did not do well for him. Either the deer wiped it out or he did not get timely rains, he did not elaborate. I planted a small area of about 2/3 acre with 9 lbs PLS that I had plowed and then drilled cowpeas into it(I have 11 acres of food plots). The same day I used a handseeder to plant the bundleflower on top of those peas on that one test plot. I did not cover it since it had the furrows from the grain drill. I got 2.1" of hard rain on top of it within a couple of days. Some seed washed down the grade and some was covered to deep. It came up but not for as much seed as I planted. I planted it with the cowpeas hoping the cowpeas would keep the pressure off of it. The deer have not really found it yet that I can tell but they are eating those cowpeas. I will see what happens to it over the next couple of months.
I would think behind a HF and with a lot animals you would need to plant a large area of it to give it a chance. I don't think I would plant it this late in the year unless would keep raining into July or so, then it might get established.
