This combination has been around forever but I never tried it until the other day. You have to overcook everything and have fried onion and bacon, but it is pretty good eating. I'm amazed you don't see it more at BBQ places.
That is, fry an onion and bacon, add black eyed peas and cut green greens 50/50 and enough water to simmer about an hour.

Grew up on the same thing. Cooked some purple hull peas the other day and used Tony's for seasoning and they were really good. I have five 80 foot rows up if they don't get washed away I should have plenty to freeze.
