guy I know just won big at a bass tournament this weekend and needs a cpa around conroe.
any references appreciated.

Find a local Enrolled Agent, they are specialized in in income tax law. Google "Enrolled Agent Conroe Texas", you should get a few names to check out.

Dude got the answer in the TFF, startva sole proprietorship and count winnings as income, and expense everything else. Sell either the truck or boat to pay taxes and use the rest to buy gear.

Depending on his income he may not only have to pay the taxes on the boat and truck and could possibly put him in a higher tax bracket all together and raise his tax burden from his normal income
