I am sort of a newbie rifle shooter and hunter. This forum has been very helpful in helping me choose my first rifle and learning my rifle and learning hunting.
My front action screw was lost about 2 months ago and Savage Arms just sent me a new screw to install.
Questions:
1. Savage told me to install the screw at 30-35 in sq pounds torque. How do I torque the screw? Should I just hand screw it and be done with it?
Get the Fat Wrench and read the directions. Google, a call to Savage, or the guys on here will give you the torque numbers. Or, you could do like our forefathers and just use a screwdriver to tighten the screws.
Fat wrench, which is a torque wrench adjustable in inch-pounds. Set it at 30, torque the screw, test fire, if not satisfied with the groups, go up in torque on the front action screw a little and test again.

Questions:
3. Should all screws on the rifle and scope be tighten at a certain torque and be checked regularly?
Thank you,
The answer to this question is: Yes, they should all be tightened to a specific torque. As for checking regularly, if it is shooting good groups, then there is no need to check. If groups start going squirrely, then the action screws and scope mount screws are the first thing you should check. A bit of blue loc-tite on the scope mount screws should help with keeping them where you set them. As for the action screws, I like to pull my barreled actions from the stocks regularly to do a deep clean, so mine are re-torqued regularly.

Thank you HandgunHTR,
Should the scope mounts be tighten to a specific torque? see picture below with red arrows.
If this is a sport you’re enjoying and see a future in then you definitely get your own wrench and learn how to use it. The more tools you have to tinker with the more you will tinker, The more you tinker, the more you will screw up, the more you screw up the more you learn.
Poor logic I know but before the internet and YouTube that’s how I learned many things.
A curious person with a Fat Wrench knows what the screws are torqued at in his refrigerator door handle.
I'd be willing to help you out. I even have spare screws that could possibly work. But u need to contact me.
Thank you so much Korean Redneck for the help.
I ordered the wrench from here and tighten the screw when the wrench is aviable. https://www.amazon.com/Wheeler-Accurizing-Measurement-Gunsmithing-Maintenance/dp/B0012AXR4S/ref=sr_1_5?crid=22YUEYOK20XT9&keywords=torque+wrench&qid=1556463688&s=sporting-goods&sprefix=tor%2Csporting%2C165&sr=1-5
I will PM you soon as I know you live close to the American Shooting Range.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to me. I appreciate your help.
I deciede to just order the wrench and tighten the screw to savage torque specifications. https://www.amazon.com/Wheeler-Accurizing-Measurement-Gunsmithing-Maintenance/dp/B0012AXR4S/ref=sr_1_5?crid=22YUEYOK20XT9&keywords=torque+wrench&qid=1556463688&s=sporting-goods&sprefix=tor%2Csporting%2C165&sr=1-5
I am waiting for the wrench to be shipped to my house.
I let everyone know if I have some questions or concerns.
