Hello, I have a 14 acre property with a good size pond. Looking for a small gator to live in it. Kinda like a free roaming pet but not a captive pet as cant have one in the city limits. Smaller the better but how can i get one to come live here? lol
lots of fish to eat in this pond.

from the Game Warden Field Notes thread Facebook Advertising Works On April 3, a Titus County game warden completed a joint investigation on a local wholesale fish dealer for illegally importing and selling whole unprocessed alligator from Louisiana. This investigation was initiated when an unprocessed alligator was advertised for sell on Facebook in Henderson County by an unlicensed retail fish dealer. The wholesale dealer in Titus County was found to have illegally imported the undocumented alligators into Texas for resale. One citation issued for No Alligator Wholesale Dealer Permit. Two warning citations were also issued for No Alligator Import Permit and two warning citations for Illegal sale of alligator.

Long ago, I had a HS friend pledge SAE at Texas and they needed an Alligator for the pond they had built for the jungle party. One of his pledge brothers was sent to Round Rock to pick up the reptile and on the way back he was pulled over for speeding. When the trooper ask why he was speeding, he thought he had a great answer, "Sir I need to get this Alligator to water". Trooper responded, "Do you have a permit to transport it?"

Rumor has it that they walk around and it's just a matter of time until they are in a pond. I'm about ten miles from the Sabine River, and it's full of gators. The creek that is one of my property lines flows directly into the Sabine. Beavers and Otters come up it all the time, so it's just a matter of time until a gator figures out where my pond is.

Gators do walk around, mostly during mating season. Way back when, my cuz found a big one out in his field. He took his truck and went nose to nose with the gator, expecting the big gator to run. He inched forward to intimidate him but would up with very expensive damage to the front bumper and the plastic. He said the whole truck shook. It was a Dodge. Probably a Ford wouldnt have been damaged.
This was back in NE Louisiana. My folks had a large pond (small lake) that had small waterways to several larger lakes and Sloughs, and she always had gators in the pond. Some, over the years, were huge. We did not let kids go near the pond by themselves. So be careful with the desire to have a gator in your pond. They get big. They get hungry. And they are so very quick. If you havent seen the quickness of a gator up close, I think youd be shocked.

Whats funny is you used to be able to buy baby gators when I was a kid. It was very common.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I read something in a book one time, that alligators terrotory expands up to 8 miles or so pretty much every damn time it rains. That would explain the gators in lake ray hubbard.
So, be careful what you wish for.

You can buy them at the neighborhood gas station according to Lone Star Law! I saw one once and threw my rapala count down over it's back. Got him to 10 feet of the shore. It didn't like humans luckily. Good luck on your search!

A gator will strike a Buzzbait. Be careful lipping it though.
