It is a bit overbore to the point a lot of people report it is difficult to find a consistent load for. Unless he has good data and load worked up already I would probably shy away from it. I would eect somewhere south of 1000 rounds and the barrel be toast. Of course you would trade ot sell it before then

I have one and it is fabulous! However, it is a specialized tool and not a rifle I throw in the truck to ride around with or take to the range to run 30 rounds through it on steel. Buzz you have never met me nor I you but based on what I know about you from here it is not a good fit for you.

I have shot one quite a bit over the years. Made one of the best free handed shots of my life in Commanche county on a running Grey Fox with it. It was about 225 yards and with one shot it rolled to a stop. Couldn't do that again in a million years. LOL
I loved it back when premium ammo was around $25 a box. With the cheap stuff over $50 a box now I cant bring myself to enjoy it anymore. If a 7 Rem Mag cant get the job done I will just step up to the 300RUM if I am going to spend $50+ a box on ammo.

the 7mm STW is a bad mofo and pretty much a ballistic twin to the 7mm RUM. the STW has seen somewhat of a resurgence. Like a lot of Remington cartridges, lack of marketing hurt it. Even the wildly successful .300wsm and its lesser known 7mm wsm have seen ammo sales fall off pretty sharply according to my sources.
with people now wanting to go hunting bigger critters with 6.5 creedmoors and .300 Blackouts, the big gun sector has quieted down quite a bit.
These guns will be the baby's to the international type trophy hunters, not Joe Tree Stand.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Cant believe im even reading this particular forum much less chiming in since I claim to be somewhat of a "hunter" but certainly not any fancy "shooter" at all. Very little knowledge from me on subject but just coincidentally a respected and very experienced gunsmith in our area told me just yesterday that many "ultra" type mags he has personally dealt with will burn out a barrel in 200ish rounds. Once again, im clueless, but seems shocking but that's what he said.

Exactly.
It can be done, but you’d have to try. To just say that they do it, as if it’s normal? Hogwash.

The 28 Nosler is very very similar to the STW and mine has right at 300 rounds down it and while it has a little firecracking it’s not nearly shot out. I am thinking 800-1000 is about where you will need to call your friendly neighborhood gunsmith

I've graduated away from cartridges in which a crash helmet and mouthpiece are required to enjoy the shooting experience. That includes Ultra Mags and 7STW's.
