Son got a nice one this weekend. He and another nice Tom where following a hen across a large open field and would not have anything to do with our calling and decoys. Told my son to see if he could sneak around the tree line and cut them off. About 45 minutes later I hear the shot. We new it was a good Tom but was very surprised when we got a closer look. 5 beards and 1 1/4 inch spurs.

Congrats to your boy. I sure hope yall are mounting that joker. Mike at Blackwings Taxidermy does an outstanding job. He mounted a 4 bearded eastern I killed several years ago. He had 1 7/16in spurs. Best overall scoring bird I ever killed.

Unfortunately not. Didn't really realize how good of a bird it was until later. Regretting it now. Was more worried about getting the meat cooled. haha. All I have left of him is the spurs, tail feathers and the beards. Trying to figure out a good way to display them now.

I made this mount for my sons first two turkeys. Does require a little bit of space to allow the feathers to dry out, but the process was simple and the instructions online were very easy to follow.

I bought the wood plaque online (don’t remember where but there’s a bunch of options online) and it hangs in my sons room several years later still looking new and with no stink or anything.

I showed this only to say you have options and can do something like this at home. Make it special for you and your son and it will be a good reminder of that day!

Yup, that is a good way to mount what you have left of him. I have done several that way over the years. one that got lost/torn up in a move was my largest Eastern gobbler. 11 .25 inch beard and 1 3/16 spurs.

Great bid and congrats to your son.

Congratulations to your son. Also, great mount and example of how to do one.
