Cowboy cauldron project in progress. Cauldron was used for making soap by my Great Grandmother, Grandmother, and my Mother when she was a kid. I paid about $42 for a used/return Boss Buck tripod deer feeder header off amazon, then ground off the welded nuts so my well pipe would slide over them. For the legs I salvaged old rusted pitted drill stem I found in the woods at the deer lease. The chain handle on the cauldron will be replaced with some rusty pitted 3/4" steel rod I found after I get the bending jig for my anvil to work it. The current hanging chain will be replaced with heavy logging chain. I added an old reversed meat market pulley to the side for hanging a cast iron pot over the fire when needed. The metal rim is a remnant from a wagon wheel. I originally was going to cut the legs shorter and use the wagon wheel as a foot rest, but decided I liked it better as a hand rest. I need to figure out some unique way to do a narrow shelf around the wagon wheel for setting drinks on it. When put in place the ground under and around it will be paved with vintage to antique bricks of various makes with the imposed names showing to the top.

This one has an old repair where it had cracked a few inches from the rim and then welded. It would have come to western Oklahoma from West Virginia with my Grandmother. Then from the OK homestead to Texas with my Grandfather in the 1950s where it was used as a planter for many years. Later it ended up at my parents house where I emptied it and played with it as a kid in the 1960s. It made a great halloween prop. Later my Dad built an arbor near the creek behind their house. The cauldron hung under the arbor for many years with Wisteria vines growing all over the arbor. With my Dad gone nature took it all back, the arbor rotted away, the cauldron fell to the ground, and got covered up by honeysuckle. It got moved to the front of my parents house and filled with rocks and shells from around the house and was just rusting away. Afraid it would get stolen, It was given to me recently. Somewhere along the line it already had three holes drilled in the bottom so I don't have to worry about it holding water. Originally I was going to build some kind of combination fire/water feature out of it, but after I saw a commercial fake "cowboy cauldron" online I decided the current project would be much easier and better.

Classic. Reminds me of an old song. Momma washed our clothes on a washboard everyday. Also an old country saying, " a good scald." We heated our scalding water for hog killing in an old kettle line that. We even had fish fries in them

My mom did the same. Fond memories.

Antique bricks? I have a bunch of them sitting around in a pile at my place South of Bowie. They were from early Fort Worth streets. Not sure where you are but, if interested, let me know. No charge,.

I don't even remember getting them. But I've had the place for about 35 years. Not even sure why I wanted them. They've been in a pile by a pasture for a LONG time.

Dave, I might have to take you up on that. Bowie would not be very far out of my way to or from my deer lease. Not sure what day yet, but will be going turkey hunting again soon. I have several old bricks of different makes, but not near enough for this project. I figured I was going to be doing a lot of creek walking.

Hoping to get up there this week. If so, I'll take a pic of what I've got and text to you.

Dang Fort Worth Berry Street fire bricks are gone. I went there yesterday and headed for the place that I had dumped the bricks about 25+ years ago tp get a picture. Called my Wife and she said "What bricks?" So I called my 19 year old Grandson. It turns out that he and a buddy spotted those old bricks and figured they would make dandy fish structure in one of the stock tanks. So they got the tractor and filled the loader bucket with them. Right now they are in about 5 ft of water somewhere about 10 feet from the dam. Ain't no way to recover them. The heck of it is that I am butt deep in rocks of all sizes that could have been used.
