Depends, I hug my daddy brother close friends and most women I know. Others shake hands. I was raised to say hello and goodby to everyone I knew when arriving to or leaving an event/function/party.

Yes. I am hugged several times a day by coworkers, clients, and friends. I also hug my family members, I just don't see them as often.

I don't like Tree Huggers

I love trees. Never hugged one that I can remember, but would do so in a flash. Next time I'm at the land I'll make it a point too. I love trees.

Personal setting: hugs for people I know well and/or handshake for acquaintances. I have friends I consider family. Men and women. Doesn’t matter. If I care for you, you’re getting a hug. My friends and family hug whenever we say hello and goodbye. Hug every family member every chance I get. Get and give a kiss to my grandmothers whenever I see them. Grandfather gets a hug- he is getting used to it as he realizes the hugs may be becoming more limited in his age (84) and health declining. And I hug my son whenever I can (granted he is 1, so he gets hugged whenever I pick him up).

Not hugging to try and protect masculinity is a sham. Life’s too short to not show/tell people you care for them, even platonically. Not hugging due to personal space issues, To each their own. Personal boundaries are a thing I suppose.

As for trees, I hug them too. Primarily when I am hanging up a deer stand, but it’s not out of the realm to think I may hug a tree for another reason some day.

'Parents got 9 Peach trees years ago when I was a kid. They asked me to help plant them and gave me one of them. This was during the fad that plants can hear you and you should talk to them to get them to grow. I talked to my tree. In a few years eight trees died and one lived over 15 years after that - mine. Who knows how long it woulda lived if I'd hugged it.

I am a hugger, like said before if they are good friends or family they get a hug. Now there are different kinds of hugs for different people.
Male friends get a handshake and a small one arm on the shoulder hug , female friends get both arms around the shoulder hug (no Joe Biden chit).

Call me Joe, but there are a few women, besides the wife and daughters, that we've known for many years that I will kiss on the cheek. Now there's a couple at church that she insists on kissing me (albeit a "peck") square on the lips, right in front of her husband. Again, we've known each other for years, lots of weddings and funerals, etc. But that's a little unusual. The husband could snap my neck with just his huge right hand with very little effort.

I make it a point to hug my wife and kid everyday.

I was hugged three times yesterday. I survived.
