I plan to go full out Nagasaki on these damn spawn of Satan creatures from hell this year. We have a place at lake Brownwood that here in about about another 3 weeks or so we'll have to hose down with maximum strength DEET and/or shake sulfur dust all over everyones lower half if to have have a prayer of keeping them off. You better do it on the running board of the truck before you ever set foot in the grass - it's that bad some years.
What is the most successful, longest residual, chemical insecticide that we can spray on everywhere we might be walking? It's 3 adjoining lots at Thunderbird bay so there is a fair amount of grass to spray. We have a polaris ranger with a tank and sprayer or have enough hose to do it with hose end sprayer.
If done correctly the repellent does the job but that stuff is greasy all over everyone's skin, shoes, clothes and then we go in the house and it gets smeared all over and stinks. The sulfur of course has it's own unique aroma but it does work also.
I just want to kill them all dead in the most scorched earth method i can find short of actual fire. Hoping for something that will last till it freezes next winter if that's possible. Thanks for any suggestions!!

Permethrin Pro - 36% active ingredient. There is no long term / residual / one application control chemical pesticide effective on chiggers. Certainly not one I'd use if it could runoff into a body of water.
About as 'scorched earth' as it gets, one application of Seven granules watered in, then 7 -10 days later spray an application of permethrin pro. Probably take 2 or more sprayings for summer long control.
As long as your lawn / lake lots are prime habitat for chiggers/mites they will return.

Roundup
It kills everything, including human beings Yeah, I know about that stuff. Neighbor keeps me up to date. According to him it not only causes cancer but also causes GMO. He explained that was geriatric modified something or other. Thanks Rustler. And no I don’t want to poison the lake. The water intake for the treatment plant is right down the hill also. I will scale back my expectations. A few times a year is better than trying to keep them off you all spring summer and early fall. Only drawback is figuring when to put out the next application other than going by whenever we get ate up we’d know the last one had wore off.

Permethrin Pro, and keep the grass cut short. That solved them out at my new place. I sprayed twice, the second 30 days after the first, before it got cold. Fixing to do it all over again.

I used Mavrik last year. It works great but chiggers have been so bad the last two years I had to apply it two or three times. Get a hose end spryer and spray the entire area. https://store.doyourownpestcontrol.com/chigger-controlThis place has great products that work, stuff the big box stores don’t have.

I've been using sulfur pellets. I think a 10 lb bag does half an acre. I spread it twice a year. I don't have any problems after the first application.
I grew up at Lake Brownwood. I bet I still have chiggers scratchin scars.

I glove up and pass it out by hand but a spreader will work though.

Just be sure none of your kids or grandkids are allergic to or have a sensitivity to sulphur.
The only thing Ive ever found out for sure I have a severe allergic reaction to is sulphur.
One reason I recommended the double chigger whammy of Seven granules and Permethrin Pro.

Thanks Rustler, I never would have thought about that. So far, none of us are allergic because a sock with sulfer dust in it is always in the standard arsenal of Deet, etc. But that’s a good thing to keep in mind as a possibility to watch out for. What kind of reaction does it cause you?

I like the Sulfur idea, far more honey/wild bee friendly along with cut short vegetation.

So far, none of us are allergic because a sock with sulfer dust in it is always in the standard arsenal of Deet, etc. But that’s a good thing to keep in mind as a possibility to watch out for. What kind of reaction does it cause you? Signs of mild reaction are asthma like, hay fever ish, congestion, runny nose, wheezing, rash or skin redness, redness does not always appear at sight of application. Mild reactions are often mis diagnosed especially in children because use of sulphur coincides with spring/allergy season, so some doctors are quick to diagnose as normal/ organic seasonal allergies. Long ago I used the sulfur dust in sock as repellant also, over the years I obviously developed a severe allergy. Depending on amount of contact I go from skin turns red feels like severe sun burn, to swelling of eye lids & face, to wheezing, to shortness of breath, to difficulty even taking a breath. From my understanding severe reaction is fairly rare. Just me, best long term control is changing the habitat from one that is prime for chiggers to one that is not only repulsive but also detrimental to chiggers.

I used to be infested with chiggers and ticks. Then 5 years of drought took care of that problem
