Can this be shot out of an AR15 223 barrel?

No
In a properly built rifle it won't even chamber.
Kids don't try this at home.

I just read an article about it and it was talking about shooting hogs with AR15 223 loads. They brought up this load but didn’t distinguish it any differently from a 223. Just making sure...

It’s a fantastic round in a AR15. I had my doubts until I hunted with it this past year, now it’s my go to walking rifle and truck/SxS rifle.

6.5 means 6.5mm, therefore you need a 6.5mm barrel chambered in 6.5 Grendel.
.223 caliber is also 5.56mm, a completely different barrel from the 6.5 Grendel.
The 6.5 Grendel and the .223 are both AR-15 cartridges. They both use identical uppers, and lowers. The Grendel needs a different bolt face that the .223/5.56mm.

It’s a fantastic round in a AR15. I had my doubts until I hunted with it this past year, now it’s my go to walking rifle and truck/SxS rifle. My wife won a ruger predator bolt action in 6.5 Grendel. I have not mounted a scope or shot it yet. I picked up some Hornady ammo. What ammo are you shooting , what animals are you shooting, and how has it performed?

I have been hunting with the 6.5 Grendel for a few years now, and really like the cartridge and its performance. It is such a great cartridge that every time I take it to the blind, the deer don't show up. I guess they are scared of it . Just my .02, LeonCarr

I have a couple Grendels and mostly these days hunt with them for deer and hogs. The SSTs and ELDMs both work. Quite a few like the Federal loads with the 120gr Fusions. If you reload or want to purchase ammo from one of the smaller manufactures of ammo look at the 129gr Nosler Long Range Accubond loads. Nosler has announced a load for the 129gr LRAB and Precision Firearms does a load for that bullet

I just picked up an 18" 6.5 Grendel PSA upper to my MP15 and it turned it into a real rifle. I shoot Hornady 123 SST factory loads and Nosler 120 Ballistic Tips for hunting hogs. It really does a great job on hogs. Have not tried it on deer yet. I have worked up several loads and you can see the results on my website at https://theolddeerhunters.com/65-grendel-rifle .

Cases are different diameters
At the rim 223 is .375 and Grendel is .442 so there should be no way to chamber a Grendel in a 223

If it's anything like my RAP, you will not be disappointed. It will shoot really nice groups with different ammo.

123 SST Hornady has been good for me on deer. I've had penetration issues and jacket separation with them. had to shoot 1 deer 3 times and all three were kill shots. pulled two slugs and they weighed almost nothing and the lead core had separated from the jacket. this was a small deer, fully mature buck at the start of the rut dressed 105 lbs. Shot a yearling axis deer with it around 100 ish yards with it, right behind the shoulder. heard the impact but the deer ran off without showing much sign of being hit. deer piled up around 40 yards, not a lot of blood. no exit wound. Pulled the bullet out of the cavity and same thing, jacket separated from the lead core. Internal damage was what I feel is marginal. Expandable broadhead does much more damage as does a 120 7mm-08 managed recoil SST slug. Pleasure to shoot, but im not sold on it as a deer round based on the performance ive seen
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

TxTrophy85 Try some loads with the 129gr Long Range Accubonds. From all repofts that one gives more damage with deep penetration. My sample of 1 looked real good and others report better results than with the 123gr SST. Lately Hornady SST Ammo has been getting bad mouthed on other forums as not being what it used to be accuracy wise or on game performance wise.
At least 2 smaller manufactures are loading that one. Performance Firearms being one of them.

I've been shooting hogs with the 123 SST for some time now with very good results. I took a friend out with me a couple days ago and he dropped one over 250 lbs. with one shot through the front shoulder. The bullets I've recovered from hogs are mushroomed beautifully and have good weight retention. Don't know what your problem is with them. I like them enough that I just purchased 500 of these bullets for reloading.
