Went to Mamas Daughter in Lewisville today had the CFS, mash taters, black eyed peas and spinach it was good just okay good. Have fond memories of the one on Harry Hines Blvd. at Royal Lane, not sure if it is the food there or visiting old girlfriends still strolling up and down H.H Blvd laugh

Where is your home cooking restaurant located?

Will have to try that out. Never heard of it - looks delicious though based on what I saw on their web site.

In Houston, I am fairly close to Kelley's Country Cooking. That hits the spot for home cooking meals. Very hole in the wall, but always busy and never disappoints.

Pappy's has been open since the 80's, they just had to recently move out further west, but everything stayed the same in regards to their food.

This place is pretty good, my wife's family gets together there about once a year.

I'm lucky enough to have Mom still around for comfort food. Have yet to find a place that compares...

Kelley’s is good. Never heard of Pappy’s.
If you are near Homestead and Mesa, which why would you be in the hood, Check our Farmers Fresh. Plate lunches everyday. Beef tips and rice that’d make you hurt yourself.

I still think Babe’s is pretty darn good. Especially the fried chicken.

Back in the 80s-90s when I worked off Josey Ln. and 635 Mothers Daughters Diner was a favorite. The Mecca on Harry Hines (or Hinny Hairs as we used to call it) was also good.

I never cared for the home cooking want-a-bes like Dixie House or Cotton Patch.

The Mecca has great cinnamon rolls.

There is a place in Oak Cliff, Wynwood shopping center that’s pretty good. Don’t remember the name.

I heard the Mecca moved to Lakewood some time back and wow the Wynwood shopping center in Oak Cliff, although I seldom went there it does bring back memories from late 60's.

The Dixie House Bachman Lake just like the Black Eyed Pea when they first opened up they were way good, big main dish serving with 3 sides and all of the fresh rolls or corn bread you could eat and it was dayum good.
Use to have lunch with my dad back in the 90's at the original Cotton Patch in Cedar Hill it was very good back then and reasonably priced.

Like so many things that start off great and go down hill when they start expanding all of the ones mentioned above went south nuts

Back in the day....when Cedar Springs Blvd. was a little different than it is today......the original Black Eyed Pea had as good a chicken fried steak as you could get. Plus, the Spanish Village had the best chicken enchiladas, and Adair’s cheeseburger was killer. And all within a block of each other.

Now.....

Pioneer in Wichita Falls is good. Fried chicken comfort doesn't get better than Babe's imo.

They had a Wednesday Special of buy one get one free on the CFS, and yes it was good.

They also ran bar specials there as well, and after buying a drink you got a free spin on the wheel and could win a free CFS.
