Went out first time today with a foxpro deadbone-was a great morning for it! 19 degrees and only a slight breeze. Being new, All I did was sit in my deer blind with the unit 30 yards to my left and just let it play. Started with a jackrabbit sound, then cotton tail, then little later went to the female yote call-maybe 20 minutes into all this first coyote just "appeared"-came at me from the east and the sun kept me from seeing him until he was 40 yards away! Was Pretty stinking awesome anyhow, my first coyote called in!! Knocked him down and couldn't help but laugh! Was tickled to death the call worked-thing is, I am not sure what got him to come in? was it the rabbit sounds or was he looking for a girl friend? Also, I know they tend to run in 2's but never saw another one.

Anyhow, let things settle a bit and then went back at it-nothing else exciting happened except for about 9 am I went with the "coyote challenge" sound and I swear over the next hill there was a response. I never could get that coyote to come in, but he was barking in a similar sound my call was making. Gave up about 20 minutes later as I had to get to work.

Anyhow, this time of year are they more responsive to food or mating? also, any tips for a very new to this type of hunting is appreciated!

Dave

Now you are hooked. If possibility of cats in the area might try a bird in distress. I have had my best luck with lightning Jack. Enjoy!

After getting a shot off, immediately hit the " wounded coyote" sound. Has worked good for me.
