Boring..... I still like them a lot but heavy metal can also be fun. Here is my collection. I still have a Hi-Power and CZ-75 on my want list.

I do have polymers too but they all look alike and everyone has them.

From 11 o'clock, HK-P7, Walther P-5, Ruger P89 (still love the chunky tank), Ruger SR1911, Sig 226, Sig P6.

Post some of your metal pistols.

Modern design has overtaken the HiPower. I largely lost interest the first time that I fired a Sig P228, as the Sig was clearly functionally superior. That said, the nicest thing one can say about polymer pistols is that they function correctly; certainly they're difficult to love, especially when compared to a finely machined pistol made from real metal.

I love Glocks and I have an M&P and XD. They are great pistols and very affordable. I just miss the old days when pistols actually looked different and had some unique designs. I try to grab the old ones when they become available on the surplus market.

I will not own a plastic pistol. With that being said I will recommend them to others, they've certainly proven themselves over time.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I don't care what it is made of, I want it light and reliable. Don't care about much else.

Nice looking pistols.

I grew up (my 20s and 30s) when there were all kinds of different steel and alloy framed pistols on the market.

I've owned a bunch of them over the years (Colt, S&W, Browning, Ruger, Kimber, Walther, Beretta, CZ, TZ, HK & Sig), but today when I look in my gun room...

I don't own a single steel framed pistol and even own more revolvers with a poly frame than steel.

I guess I'm in the light and reliable group. laugh

If it’s not to heavy for you, then you will appreciate it for being a damn good pistol

Two Smith & Wesson's and a Sig

A 55 year old K-38, Combat Masterpiece, my Dad's service revolver
A ten shot .22 LR
A genuine Swiss Arms Sig 553P that could be a pistol again, but won't be as long as I'm alive

I’ll play, these are the only 2 I own anymore. I’ve been on a rifle kick the last few years.

But anyway, the HK has to got to have 4-5k rounds and never a hiccup. I still like Glocks but got rid of them about 10 years ago when the HK came along. The Kimber has ran smooth too, but only 1500 down the pipe. The HK goes w me most places

It wasn't that long ago that all hand guns were referred to as pistols. Hope you don't watch old westerns or it will drive ya nuts.

Probably right. I need both. Pops had a Single Six that I wish I had but he sold it. I probably need to add a Mark 22LR to the list as well. Ruger 77, Number 1, Mini 14, Mark series and revolvers are classics.

Actually it don't bother me a bit, it's just funny how some incorrect gun terms get people's panties bunched and others they are fine with. I don't care if people call revolvers pistols, magazines clips, or if the Duke is shooting some Indians in 1880 with a 92 Winchester. I do tend to find contradictory standards comical, however :-)

It won't be long until some Glocks will qualify as curios & relics. I'm not knocking on your choices. It's OK to like antiques.

It's hard to beat a plastic pistol...if you can get it drawn out and clear and hold it with a solid two-handed grip.

Left to Right: Model 19 Smith I purchased on my 21st birthday, Beretta PX4, Model 57 Smith I just got and haven't had a chance to shoot, yet. and a K-22 Masterpiece my Dad got just before I was born. I didn't go out to the trucks to get the other two.
Then there's the Ruger Mark 1 22 and the High Standard Military Citation that aren't shown as well as the P7 M8.

The 19 stays in my home office. The Beretta next to my bed with the 57.

The 19 has taken a few deer in it's time.

Were any of these changes to the action?

Doesn’t matter. Perfect is perfect. If you have to change things, it isn’t perfect. Or wasn’t perfect.

So calling something perfect and then changing it means that it either wasn’t perfect (which means Glock was lying) or it is no longer perfect (which means Glock is currently lying).

Coset Glock fanboy. Bashes Glock in public then goes in the bathroom with his Glock and some hand lotion.

I just bought a West German P226. I can't wait to shoot it. I love the the feel, it just scream quality. I have a CZ 75 on my wish list too but I can't deal with the poly coat on the CZs. Every used one I see looks bad. I may get my CZ 75 fix from the IWI Jericho.

How about: shoots the $hit out of a Glock, but doesn’t care what other people shoot.

Then also shoots a 1911.

Then makes fun of people who can only pick one or the other.

If all the keyboard ninjas would practice a little bit, they might learn the gun really doesn’t matter.

Come on. I was just having some fun. I too like shooting different pistols. When it comes to polymer, I prefer Glock.

Tactical Cowboy, is The Purple Sage In still open out there in snyder? Also, why ya gots to hate on Glocks? You cannot deny their history of reliable performance. I say marketing is reason #1 for the generational changes.

Agreed. When you sell a gun so good and so reliable, how the hell else are you going to stay in business? Savvy people would just snag a used Glock or be happy with the one they got instead of pay full price for a new one. Ya gotta come out with some cool new stuff to keep selling guns.

Not so much improvements as trying to keep up with, or set, the trend.

The Purple Sage Motel? It’s still there. Looks kinda spooky.

I don’t hate Glocks.. I hate Glock fanboys that can’t approve of any other handgun. I carry a G19. I compete with a G17. Not because they’re the best, most reliable, never jammingest, blessed by god pistol—I shoot em cause parts are everywhere and mags are cheap.

New 43x love it best carry gun I’ve ever had. I’ve tried the G27, G23, Kahr CW9 which was great but didn’t cycle some self defense ammo so didn’t trust it, Shield 9 but couldn’t get a great grip.

Been carrying a G19 appendix and it’s just a tad long and digs into pelvis when sitting, the 43x is a little shorter but same grip length as the 19 but way thinner it seems. Just disappears even carrying tucked in at work. Only grip is I’m not a fan of the silver slide. I know you can put a black 43 slide on the 43x frame but I ain’t going through all of that I just don’t care that much.

Polymer pistols are...

Here to stay and owed thanks for making the standard higher for the existing metal framed pistols everyone loves so much. Now you don’t have to use the “it’s a (insert brand/model) thing” phrase to justify a negative attribute/malfunction as acceptable.

Low capacity antiquated designs that really just don’t appeal to me anymore.

If it’s metal framed in my room these days, it’s a revolver.

Are you saying that metal frame semi-autos malfunction more than polymer framed?

If I was calling out a particularmake/model of metal framed pistol, I’d say so.

I don’t care if you (anyone) don’t like Glock.
Smith and Wesson didn’t like them so much they made a clone of it to sell because at the time they couldn’t come up with their own design that worked as well. Glock sued them and now you get the SDV pistols that sell for like $300 and have 10 pound triggers.

Springfield never could and still can’t come up with a design on their own, so they bought the rights to a Croatian designed and manufactured pistol, that used to sell for $200 or less, stamped their name on it and sold it to people for $500+...That’s your beloved XD.

Ruger has had their own polymer framed pistols for a long time and the P89 was my first reliable centerfire polymer pistol. They have gone on to make some very good polymer guns.

Remington, well, they uh, can’t even make a metal framed pistol that isn’t someone else’s design (1911).

Now the Turks are making what looks to be a great polymer framed pistol, Canik. Which will probably be my next purchase.

HK and Sig make great polymer framed pistols as well and even though they may still make a couple models with metal framed, their focus has shifted to the polymer framed guns as well.

This list is not all encompassing, and I own pistols from several on the list, but I still compare them all to my Glocks when I handle or shoot them. Like it or not, Glock set a standard, back in the 80’s and some mfgs still can’t live up to the old standard let alone the new standard that the latest generation has set.

Just as an aside “Glock Perfection” is not a proclamation that they are perfect. Perfection is never achieved but always strived for. Perfection is their target. But keep in mind their is no one standard for what “perfection” is, it’s always subjective to that person or group...

To give people a reason to post, “why isn’t it different than what it is” type comments. If it was different, people would still find a reason to diss it because they don’t like it for any number of reasons.

You just further the point that “perfection” is a unique term to every single person.

But do any Glocks ever look good?

Just some quick and dirty numbers I came up with if one was going to build a Glock in that manner:

Pistol: $500
Slide: $500 (this is for a ZEV slide, obviously you could have a factory slide milled for less $$)
Trigger: $200
Sights: $100
Magwell: $100
Barrel: $150 (KKM, ZEV would be anywhere from $200-300)
Stippling: $200

Total: $1750, and it wouldn’t be ZEV.

A giant MEH to the $1600 ZEV. It's more than I paid for my Glock 45 Gen 5, Glock 41 Gen 4 and Gen 17 Gen 4 FS combined.

The whole advantage to the OZ9 from what I understand isn't that it does Glock things better than a Glock, but that it uses a serialized FCG like the Sig P320 that you can swap between frames. It's the first iteration of a modular Glock and that appeals to some people. Additionally, KC Eusebio just won US Steel Nats in Carry Optics division with his, so it's at least not junk.

Not saying everyone should run out and buy one, but it’s also not marketed towards the people that are going to leave a Glock bone stock, either.

Yeah, it's becoming new craze. Everything is also moving to optics ready as well.

Mounting a micro red dot on a pistol is the best advancement we've had in handguns in the last 20 years. It's quicker, you can be more accurate, and they make shooting handguns easy for old eyes.

There was a bit of grumbling when young guys like me started showing up to our local outlaw steel matches with optics on our handguns, but the older guys came around almost as soon as they tried them. I think almost 90% of shooters are using optics now, compared to like 30% just a couple of years ago.

I get it. I know they will make things easier. I just have to use iron sights on something. Just about every rifle I own has an optic. I like to keep my handguns and shotguns optic free.
