I picked up an interarms whitworth today and some ammo. I don’t know much about the rifle but got it from original owner Look at these sites

Nice, which shoulder are you going to have surgery on? Lol
Really though, 375hh mag is the largest rifle caliber I have shot to date, I have to say it wasnt as bad as I expected. I bet you have about as much worth of ammo there as you do the rifle.
The only thing flat earthers have to fear is sphere itself

English Mauser! I have the same rifle, shoots very well mine was bedded at some point and has a timken trigger. Good ammo or good had loads with shoot clover leaf groups at 100 yards. Mine also has one of the prettiest stocks I have ever owned.

Pretty rifle. I did not like shooting the 375 H&H but didn’t mind the 416Rigby

Those old Whitworths are good, solid true-mauser-actioned hunting rifles. Your .375 should be a joy to shoot; their .458 on the same platform always seemed a bit light (for me anyway!).
My PH on our first safari carried a wonderfully blue-worn Whitworth in .450 Watts (a wildcat basically identical to the .458 Lott), a rifle he'd almost worn out shooting on control work and as a member of one of Zim Parks elephant culling teams.
Those multi-leaf sights are interesting, to be sure...but that same PH had all the folding leaves brazed down so all he had was the standing vee. He didn't want to take on an unhappy undlovu at spitting distance and find that his 300 yard leaf was up!
Mount a Leupold 1.5x5 on that thing and have a blast. The .375 is one of my loves as cartridges go; maybe I've been lucky but I haven't run up on one yet that didn't want to shoot...

Very nice. An African favorite. I have a 375 H&H, the recoil is not that bad.

I had the exact rifle. I believe they were made in England with the later ones being zastava. Both are great rifles built on 98 actions. Mine was made in England with a beautiful stock and bluing. For Texas hunting (all I’ve ever done) I shot Speer 270 grain soft points at moderate velocities. I shot some heavily loaded 300 grain bullets but man it was no fun on the bench. Scoped mine with a 2-7 VX-1. It was great. If it was left handed I would still own it.

Nice find. I had one 30 years ago and wish I still did. Reduced loads with a 235 grain bullet did a good job on whitetails.

Absolutely correct, TX_LT. When I set up my first .375 (and we won't talk about how many years ago THAT was!) I was convinced that it would simply vaporize whitetails. After all, it was used regularly for all of the Big 5, right?
So, come November, I was slipping through some post oaks in Gillespie County with this "cannon" and found a nice eight point buck picking up acorns. I snuggled up against a tree for a rest, pasted the crosshairs in the center of his shoulder and mashed the trigger on a 300 grain Nosler Partition. Politely, the buck collapsed on the spot. The exit wound was a thumb-sized hole, the entrance was a single drop of blood leaking through the hair. I dressed the buck, fetched my truck, and carried the carcass back to camp.
My buddy arrived a bit later, saw the buck and couldn't wait to check him out (he knew what I was carrying that day). He checked both entrance and exit, peered into the chest cavity, then stepped back with his eyebrows all mashed together. "Hell, I screw 'em up worse than this with a .270"...and he was right.
Texas game (nilgai excluded) really doesn't offer enough resistance for 300 grain stuff to even consider expanding. Regardless, put a .375 hole through the engine room and you'll eat fried backstrap every time!

Very nice. An African favorite. I have a 375 H&H, the recoil is not that bad. For reference purposes, it has 36 and 37 recoil energy with those two rounds vs a .300WM at 23-26. It definitely won’t be a sit and shoot all day gun!

I guess you know to disregard the prices on the ammo boxes. That’s about $5-600 worth of ammo.

What a neat rifle.

I shot a whitetail doe with my buddy's 375 a few years back. We were burning through some factory ammo so he would have brass to reload for an upcoming safari. I had about the same result you did. I was shooting open sights and didn't see the deer fall and actually thought I had missed until I walked over to the thick brush she was standing in and found her DRT in her tracks.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

One of the reasons I wanted a 375 was I have a bunch of ammo already and dies so I figured I need a rifle to go with it. When I bought this one the man said it came with ammo but I didn’t know it was this much. I also bought a 338 win mag from the same man and it came with about eh same amount of ammo
I once drank muddy water out of a hoof print and was dang glad to get it.

Good looking piece of wood on that rifle. With those 2 reduced loads can be one with H4895 if you want some fun less recoil loads
