Taking the wife and kiddos to Broken Bow for a few days. We've never been, but it looks very nice. We are staying in one of the nice rental cabins. Besides general web searching for things to do, I figured I would ask you all for some recommendations or "can't miss" activities or eateries while we are there. I appreciate any suggestions!

I'm from the area and have a cabin up there. It's beautiful. There is trout fishing, a zip line course (rugaruadventures.com???? i think is the name) Check out the Beaver's Bend area just down the road. If you guys are golfers there is a nice state course up there. Cedar Creek is the name. Several different eateries. Grateful Head Pizza, Abendigos (steak joint), Burgers and Blues, Blue Rooster (fish and chicken), and many others. Lots of nature trails.

Haven't been this early in the year. Bet the fly fishing is good coming off the dam. Great place for the kids.

Best Pizza I've ever had. Gotta go there. Blue Rooster is awesome too. Fried green tomatoes, fried squash, fried chicken and fried pies all awesome! Go to Beavers Bend State Park and hike around. Kayaking the river is always fun, there are a couple little waterfalls you get to go down. Drive north and go through the National Forest. Lots of beautiful scenery to take in. Great place to visit!

You should have been here yesterday!

As mentioned, Grateful Head Pizza is pretty good. If the weather cooperates, rent a boat. Lots of hiking. I seem to recall a Jeep rental place but know nothing about it. Your cabin likely will have a fire pit, the cabin I rented did. Also had a pool table and hot tub. The table wasn't for serious playing (not high quality and a bit beat up) and we didn't use the hot tub.

Trout fishing is OK — maybe not the best time of yeat
Boating is enjoyable — several rentals in the area
Rafting & canoeing are fun as well (cold this time of year)
Hiking and a campout/cookout in Beaver’s Bend Sate Park
The Dinosaur Museum is a good outing
Consider driving across the border to Diamond Crater State Park and digging for diamonds

We go up several times a year as a family and I go up about every other week or two to trout fish.

Mountain Fork Brewery is great - food is good and their beer is very good. There is a newer placed called Shuck Me owned by a TFF'r - food is pretty good there too. I don't think we've eaten anywhere up there that is "bad."

Trout fishing is good year round. There are some holes with very big rainbows and browns. With it being winter time they're generating a lot right now so depending on their schedule only zone 1 will be fishable. There is a section in zone 1(red zone) that has very specific bag limits and barbless artificial baits only. The rest of zone 1 (blue) you can use anything. A lot of people use corn or power bait - you'll only catch smaller stocker fish that way. If you've got kiddos with you - be very careful around the river - those rocks are slick as heck. In certain parts of the river there is pretty good walleye fishing.

There is pretty good fishing on the lake from what I hear - but honestly I've never fished it.

Plenty of good hiking trails if that's your thing. Shouldn't be crowded this time of year.

Jeep and ATV rentals - never done it - heard they've got some decent trails

Zip line course is pretty good.

Casino 15 minutes away in Broken Bow.

And probably a bunch of other things I'm not thinking of right now. It is the off season up there right now, so everything shouldn't be too crowded but some of the stuff may be closed (haven't paid attention...we hike, fish, and drink beer mainly).

Another vote for greatful head. They’re building tons of stuff up there by the day, but we usually don’t venture out much during th cold season. With kids, id go into the park for a hike, ride the train and check out the nature center in the park. It’s small but free.
In Hochatown, they’ve added one of those escape rooms next to the brewery which is also a good place to grab a bite. Zip lines, go carts putt putt is around too.
For future reference, with no kids, the breweries and wineries are good, the golf course is nice and cheap, and kayaking down the river south of the park is great during warmer months.

Oh no you dih’nt...

TripAdvisor has a list of 64 things to do in McCurtain County. I’m a bit surpised as I’ve been going there for 54 years and didn’t know half this stuff!

I like going up there and fishing, but I must be the exception on the Grateful Head Pizza, the only thing I thought was good there was the beer. To me the pizza was just like Pizza Pro, palatable bet meh. Perhaps I just found out I’m a pizza snob. confused2

We took UTVs and rode the trails the entire day. Was a good time. Hardly saw anyone else.

Me and the wife don't care for it either. Just "ok"

You're being complimentary at "OK." Our take-out was not fit to eat. I think half went in the trash. Seems like we ate cheese crackers instead and called a night.

When are you guys headed that way? You will have to give some feedback.....we were just talking about the same trip.

Heading up right after Memorial Day - cabin is by Hochatown. Don't want to drive into Broken Bow for restaurants though. I'll check out suggestions above.
Thanks!

We have never been, but are heading up later this month. Any spots to plan for fishing? We are staying at one of the Beavers Bend Cabins.
