I've got a lot of boxes of 5.56 rounds that I've never shot and was going to pull the bullets and cut the brass to re-size for 300 AAC Blackout. I've converted my AR recently and no need for the 5.56 in anything. I purchased a Lyman bullet puller but i've had no luck getting the bullets out. I've beat them until I'm blue in the face. Any suggestions would be helpful. Also looking for some used powder scales if anyone has some to sale.
Thanks, Don

I've used kinetic bullet pullers, they work but are slow. To get them to work I hit them really hard on a concrete floor. If you hit a wood bench top it will not work well. They will eventually fail (break) from all the abuse.
I now use a RCBS collet bullet puller, it works great and doesn't damage the bullet tip like the kinetic pullers do. The grip-n-pull looks good also.

If your not concerned about saving the bullets a pair of pliers will do what the grip and pull does and you probably have them in your tool box.

Seems like you could sell them and buy a lot more brass. But a collet puller is great. No way I would use a kinetic one to pull a bunch of bullets.

I have one of these, cant ,make it work, so I just use the old tried and true, RCBS "hammer" style. Not sure what I paid for my Grip and Pull, cant remember what they cost, if you will pay for shipping, you are welcome to it.

Not sure what I paid for my Grip and Pull, cant remember what they cost, if you will pay for shipping, you are welcome to it. Two things. 1. It requires man hands. 2. Many times, the opening for the next caliber larger, works better, and causes less damage to the bullet.

I don't know how yall pull so many bullets. In the 20 years or so I have been reloading I have only pulled a handful, mostly factory ammo just to see what was in them.

I’m cheap enough that if I have some ammo loaded that didn’t shoot well, I’ll pull the bullet, adjust powder charge as needed, and reseat said bullet.

Loading for how many cartridges, and how many rifles? Step your way up, find pressure, and there were some loaded even hotter. Pull em. Primer falls out of the brass, in an AR-10. Pull it. When I go to find rifling, I seat long, in a modified case, and let the lands shove the bullet deeper into the case. 5-10 tries to be absolutely sure of where lands are, and you have to pull the bullet after each try. Did it 6 times on Sunday.

Inertia type pullers work better with heavy bullets. With light projectiles they are a PITA. A collet style puller is much more user friendly. I have the Hornady cam lock puller and really like it. It does require caliber specific collets.

I don't wana sound negative but by the time you pull a bunch of bullets that are crimped, primers that are crimped, and size from .224 to .308, new blackout brass will seem really cheap

I don't have any problems since my neck tension is not so tight to see that happen.

Selling the 5.56 is probably the best way, but I have the stuff to convert them and I probably wouldn't get much for the boxes as they are cheap plinking rounds. Hindsight though it would have been easier.
