Went out and shot my Henry 41 mag loads the spouse worked up for me. Pretty sweet shootin' rifle. I'll be hunting hogs with it a couple of weeks.
210 gr XTP bullets for now, I've got some factory 240 gr platinum tips to try out as well before we come down to Texas. I'll be good out to 125 yds or so.

For giggles I bought some Lehigh Defense 150 gr Xtreme defense bullets to get handloaded. Just wondering if anyone has put these bullets into a hog. I'll have to see how well they cycle in the Henry though.
I also have some 210 gr Deep Curl bullets coming from Midway to test out before we hunt.

Hoping the 300 wsm doesn't get to have all the fun this year. Sorry that's a sun spot in the pic not a blem on the receiver.

Nice rifle in an under appreciated caliber that is a lot closer to 44 mag performance thqn many would think. I think for hogs I would stick with the XTP or deep curl. I do not shoot the 41 these days but in the 44 and 357 I like the heavier bullets and have killed lots of critters with the XTP bullets.

I had no idea Henry was making a 41 Mag. I’ve always wanted one in a Marlin but they’re like precious gems these days.

I’ve always liked the deep curl by the way.

I tried the Lehigh 225 grain Extreme Defense in my 18" Marlin 1895 45-70. The average velocity is 2369 fps and they are very accurate. Unfortunately I have not had the chance to shoot a pig with it yet. I had some correspondence with the manufacturer and they said that these bullets should penetrate 2 pigs.

My buddy bought some for his 444 Marlin. We've only tried one load but so far its not as accurate as my 1895.

I have used the 90 grain 9mm extreme defender, and the 85 grain extreme cavitator in the 30 carbine. Both did great on hogs. I think about 18 hogs total where shot with them in the chest cavity and none stayed on their feet more than about 3 seconds. Most feel immediately. I have switched to the 9mm for concealed carry

Thanks guys, That is the info I needed.
The 150 gr are a little light for me but thought for fun might try them in the rifle.
Sounds like they may be great for my Ruger 41 mag bisley.

The Henry has proven to be a great shooter and a very well made rifle. Even has very nicely grained wood. Hoping for some downed hog pics to follow in about 2 weeks.

Great information here. Did they penetrate all the way through? At what range were the hogs shot?

They where all in a hog trap, and I did not recover any of the bullets so all exited. Range was self defense range, so anywhere from 3 feet to about 15 feet. Got tons of pics of the damage. Lehigh sends me bullets to test for them.

Here is one pic, I think from the 30 carbine EC. Lots of tissue damage for a non expanding bullet. I like that they can penetrate a lvl 2 vest also. Even the 9mm can.

Have you loaded up any 10 mm rounds. Looks like those 140 and 150 gr bullets would be some bad medicine on hogs as well. I might have to try some for my Colt.

Yes, I had my doubts, but now feel comfortable carrying them for self defense. My wife likes the 30 carbine for home defense and no hollowpoints would cycle in it reliably. The 85 grain extreme cavitators cycle great. No issues, run just like FMJ's, and at 2400fps they are very effective.

No, just 30 carbine and 9mm. Will send them a email and see if they will send me some 223 bullets to tests. Speed is what makes these bullets perform best, so 10 mm should be awesome.

Some loads to try. 150 gr Lehigh Defense Xtreme Defense and 210 gr Speer Deep Curl on H110 powder. I need to learn to load my own pistol rounds, rifle are no problem but crimps are new to me.

Those crimps look solid. If you loaded those rounds, it looks like you’ve got a good handle on it. If not, the process isn’t difficult. For a straight walled case, you’ll have an extra step belling the case mouths to allow bullet seating (which negates the need to chamfer), and crimping. The seating die will crimp. Just leave the die body backed out a bit, and use your seating stem to adjust seating depth to desired length. Then back the stem way out, and screw the die body down until it touches the case mouth. Lower your press ram, and adjust the die down further until you reach your desired crimp. Then lower your seating stem back down until it contacts your bullet. After this initial setup, you’ll be able to seat and crimp in one press stroke. Or, if you have a Lee factory crimp die, you would seat your bullets in one operation, then use the FCD to set your crimp separately. It’s even easier to setup than the other method I mentioned. If you’re already familiar with the process, I apologize for the long reply.

The long reply was great but I highly recommend the lee factory crimp die. I think anytime you use H110 you need a stout crimp. I have little knowledge of 41 Mag but get serious about my 45 Colt loads. If nothing else the factory crimp die makes a pretty round.

I appreciate it. The spouse does the pistol loads, pretty good handle on it. The .41 will be on it's first hog hunt. Looking at a Skinner sight for the future.
We'll shoot before we leave to see what they do out of the 20 inch barrel. The guy at Lehigh recc. the H110 for a 20 in. barrel.

Well, the Henry seems to like the Lehigh Bullets and the Deep Curl. Went shooting, windy as heck and no rest but shooting from seated position with elbows on knees for a rest and managed to blast some rocks at 115-175 yds, open sights.
Hogs better look out , we're ready.
