So this one is for all you electrician/generator/water well experts, I am really in the dark here... Problem: ok so i bought a couple of generators hoping to use them for a water well pump out in one of our fields.... however after trouble shooting it's being thought that either of the generators don't produce 220v? That is what is required to run the pumps i am guessing, the generators work they just don't produce the required voltage... does that sound correct? So long story short do I need a more powerful generator?
Here are the generators they are both the same: http://www.perdanatech.com/products/PowerStroke-3%2C500%252dWatt-212-cc-Gasoline-Powered-Portable-Generator.html

Does not appear that those produce 240 volts.
I have a champion same wattage out put that has a switch and it will do either 240 or 120 v.
You may be able to wire something up to achieve a 240 output, but im not sure of exactly how.

It maybe a three phase pump. If oil/gas drilling company put it in most likely it is

From the description
"4x 120V 20A 1x 120V 30A RV" No mention of 220v
If it is as BOBO says, 3 phase, you wont like the coin necessary for that.
If it is a housed well up top, look around on the walls or well head, often drillers will write pertinent info for later use

It says in the link 120 volt output. Not going to get 220 from those

You may be money saved if you rent one ( or borrow) with a 220v and see if that gets you there, then spend the cash.

That one does list 1, 240v 20a receptacle My generator has a 20 amp 240 volt plug. I don't know what kind of well your running, or trying to run, but our old well with a residential size pump, put out 7-8 gal a minute was set up with a 40 amp 240 volt service. Like others have said you need to find out what your pump needs, if you try running it on too little you can damage it.

Can you convert the pump motor to 120 volt?
If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

Need more information on the pump motor. Need to know phase (single or three phase), voltage and full load amps to determine what generator would be appropriate. Shoot me a PM if I can help. Been in the electric motor biz for 25 years.

Adchunts is right, need to know about well first. If you do not know, sometimes well service folks will right it or put motor label in the control panel or starter. If you know the hp, voltage and phase you can find amperes. There will be a tremendous load at first when starting the well that will pull the generator down which may cause it to trip or even stop the motor. We have a 40k generator on a 75 Hp submersible well for standby power and when it transfers it pulls it down quite a bit. Also, when was the last time the well actually ran? I ran into one where it was installed and never ran for few years and attempted to pump it with a generator but it wound up locked up. Lastly, on some pump panels you will find a reset button underneath just in case.

What type of pump? If it is a single phase 240v, it could be a 2 wire or a 3 wire. The 3 wire will require a control box that has capacitors in it. Coming directly from the pump, How many wires and what size and color are they?
