Momma gave me permission to buy a new tractor. I hay off my sons place 2 miles away and its a hassle moving hay from his place to mine. Im going to leave my old Massey 231 at his place. I am buying a new John Deere 5045E with loader and Bale Spike. Went to the Ft Worth Stock Show and found the John Deere with zero down and zero interest for 5 years hard to pass up. Looked at the other dealers and they could not compare. I used to laugh at that over priced green paint. No more

The 0/0 option is a good deal, but anything new is pricey these days. However, I do think the quality brands seem to hold their value well in the long run.

Its been 10 years ago now, but when we bought our ranch tractor we shopped around and the green/yellow paint wasn't out of line with the others. The one we found to be out of line was orange.

John Deere will stand behind any of their equipment except their manure spreader.

Congratulations. IMO you can't beat a JD tractor.

The Kubota and New Holland sales guys both bashed everyone's tractor except theirs. The John Deere guy didn't bash anyone. Said they are all good tractors but thinks his is better. I liked the way he 'sold' me on his brand and showed some class

Wonder if Folks are having any problems with new emission stuff they have on the new ones? When I was shopping last fall was In a Kubota Dealership and they had a fairly new one in, (2017) owner wasn't happy about the $3200 buck bill about new parts because he idled it a lot. They said it wasn't covered under warranty. Think JD has a similar set up.

My brother used to run about 6 JD dealerships. He retired and bought a Kubota. Make your own assumptions.

I like John Deere, so much so that two weeks ago we picked up our new green tractor. Out here around Lubbock John Deere is king. Of course it's really only Deere and Case because but you don't see much red.

I think the playing field has grown much more level over the past 10-15 years between most of the top tractors manufacturers. 25-30 years ago, Kubota was relatively new to the US market (at least in our area) and their prices were drastically lower than JD, especially in the smaller acreage market (20-40 hp). I have a mid 80s Kubota 25 hp that was 30-40% less new than similar configuration JD at the time. I also have a mid 90s 60 hp Kubota that was still considerably less than the other major brands at that time also. I believe they were still being manufactured overseas back then and really growing in popularity.

In today's market, I think they are all very comparable & competitive in performance & price and I personally would base buying new on the quality and location of a dealer where service would be performed. I do know that the used tractor market has skyrocketed in the past 5-10 years and you can fairly easily justify buying a new tractor "package" over a lot that are on the used market unless you can really find a deal.

Bet the emissions stuff has something to do with that.

They do sell those emissions delete kits for Kubota at least. I got lucky and bought mine in 2010, so none of that crap on my Kubota.

I wanted to trade in for newer, then read the emission crap had also infected the Tractor market, plus my wife said NO grin

The thing to look at besides the obvious IMO is hydro pump capacity/strength and pound per pound torque and total weight, that is where brands like Mahindra and a couple of "Orange" tractors have been a better buy, will admit it has been a while since I tractor shopped.

Have had a JD, (note some models come with foreign engines, some don't), also have had a big Case, ford and Kioti, all have done what they where needed to do for their size class. Personally, wont pay more for "color", but will for heavier, stronger per hp tractor..

Most tractors will do pretty much what the next color will do. Some are a little different, weigh less or more, etc. But for the most part they will all kinda do the same thing. of course the operator has to realize its limitations and such too. Tractors have changed a lot over the years. There are other "newer" brands out there too. Just be careful with what you buy regarding the after the sales part. Look into the parts and service part of the brand/dealership you buy. For instance in our area, Deere, and New Holland have the best service. The Kubota dealer is ok, but not as good as the other. In different parts of the state its different. If someone cant help you after your purchase than i wouldn't be buying it.

Deere has had emissions issues as of late. Their E series up from 45 to 100hp in particular. I know of 3 in this are in the past 8 months that had 100 or less that caught fire do to their emissions. Not sure on the Kubotas, and New Holland has the simplest setup actually of the 3.

To each is own, on what you purchase. Doing a little home work is a good thing too. Enjoy your new machine!
