I don’t know where the heck I came up with 6.5LRM in my previous thread. What I was all excited about was the 6.5PRC compared to Creedmoor. Now, what’s yalls opinions of this one? So THIS one started out as a .375Ruger, then to a 300RCM(Ruger Compact Mag) and has evolved into this, the 6.5 PRC. It pushes a 143gr eld-x to 2950fps, Very close to the 6.5X284 but does it with a short action.

I think I already have a 270 WSM and an awful lot of other people have one or a regular ol' .270 Winchester. 6.5 PRC seems like a good one, too.

More speed, more powder, more recoil, more barrel heat, less barrel life.
But if that fits a bill for you, go for it.
I'd rather have a 162 gr 7mm in that case, but that's my jam (7 SAUM)

That is only a little slower that the 145 eldx out of a 270 Winchester, should be a good round

Looking at those cartridges they all seem to have fairly steep shoulder angles, I believe the two creedmoor variants have 30 degree shoulders. What is the reasoning behind that and not going to a 40 degree like is on the AI rounds, or at least I think is?

Sacrificing barrel life and mild recoil for a little more ballistics.
I tend to agree that if I wanted better ballistics, I'd just upgrade to a 7mm bullet and buy back some barrel life in the process, but to each their own.

One of the things you hear people complain about the 40 degree shoulder angle is feeding in the chamber from the mag. Much like the complaints about belted magnum cases having trouble feeding because of the belt, I think it is more of a rifle action not being right than the cartridge design causing the issue. Steepest shoulder angle case I currently shoot is the 6.5-284 at 35 degrees. No issues chambering with it

Bullfrog. Buz. Related? nope. I just like shopping around and learning about different stuff. I like most all of this stuff. Every option out there has pros and cons. This one really sounds like a shooter.

I haven't looked in a while, WSM was rare as hen's teeth, SAUM was ready to ship.

Everything I have ever seen heard or read WSM is much more common/popular than SAUM. What I have seen in stores that hold true also. You can also make 7mm wsm from 270 wsm or probably 300 wsm, which are both pretty common.

Regarding 7 WSM, which is weird on a 6.5 PRC thread, quality brass is less available than 7 SAUM. However, you can just buy 7 WSM ammo and shoot it cheaper than you can get 7 SAUM brass. The WSMs are clearly more popular among all shooters even though a small segment of the market prefers the SAUM case.
I hope everyone appreciates these times with a great variety of cartridges and components to support them.
