Though out of three recent hunts I limited twice, it was not because there are a lot of birds. My hunt yesterday I only got 5, but that was from a total of 7 shots and only 6 total birds I had to shoot at. They are probably just spread around with all the wet fields and water everywhere on private land. Or maybe like was going on with ducks for a lot of y'all, there are just not many here. There are some areas that have never failed me in years past that have zero birds this year. I can't complain as long as I keep up the bird to shot ration I have going. Just one more week of season left. Scouting/hunting some different areas that I have not hunted in a very long time.

Maybe the mild weather next few days will pull some back up here from the salt grass. Good luck

Very nice. Did you use lead or steel? My preferred load for Snipe hunting is an 8 1/2 lead spreader load. Very windy days or long flushing birds hunting lake shore I might drop down to 7 1/2 lead. Unfortunately most areas now are requiring non tox shot, so #7 steel is what I use for most of my Snipe hunting. Windy days I might down to #6 steel. For the most part I have found I am much more successful going with a more open choke and smaller shot than most people would choose to use.

Not to ask you to be like Guy, but let's see some cooked birds.
How do you like to prepare them for table fare?
Grilled on the BBQ or fried in the Fry-Daddy?

And even if you miss, most of the time you will have have a second chance 200 yards down, but then, they will flush 50 yrds away instead of 20-30 since they were shot educated 7 minutes ago

Back before my older Vizsla Blaze was retired there were times when I would find a lake shore cove with Snipe around it. I would sit stay her on one point of the cove. Then I would move back into the trees and walk around the cove to the opposite point of the cove. Then I would signal to Blaze to come. She would run the bank all the way around the cove to reach me. Snipe would be flying the bank of the cove ahead of her flying straight at me. I would shoot, reload, and shoot as fast as I could. Conditions had to be just right for this to work, but when it did it was a lot more fun than wasting ammo on those barren shoreline 50 yard flushing shots. I have not tried this with Dash and he likely would just swim across the cove to me instead of cheating it because of his retriever hunt test training.

My dad did the same with his dog hunting rabits, woodcocks and pheasants. Sending the dog to the other side of the woods, zig zagging coming back flushing all kinds of goodies. It was fun to watch and very productive. He called it the lazy poor man hunt.

Buzzsaw, Its a Verona LX702. It's not a Rizzini, but Fabbrica Armi Isodoro Rizzini made them. It once looked like the picture below, but it now has been and is used hard and shows it.

Totally Impressed. I've only been snipe hunting once many years ago and they were certainly the most difficult bird I had ever tried to hunt. Small and crazy erratic.

Sniper John-
Still have the same phone number . Could have used a good dog this year. They were thick however hard to find unless you walked right over to them and you then another 10 would get up.
