So this new non belted, magnum bold face cartridge is pushing Berger 180’s at 3100 with less recoil than a 7mm WSM. Any tingly’s on anyone else?

Can’t find a whole lot yet but seems proprietary to Gunwerks. Those crafty devils.

It's a 375 ruger necked down to 7mm. Been around a while now.

Hmmm im just curious about the less recoil than a 7wsm. Long action and 10 more grains or so of powder and higher velocity usually doesn't spell out less recoil.

Coworker built one some time back. I don’t remember “less recoil “ being a selling point.

Guy at work has one from Gunwerks. He has 100s of guns but only carries that one if that says anything. I didn't witness it but he shot a hog last year with it from his blind at 1150 yards.

I own the 7 LRM. I also own a custom .300 win mag. The .300 has taken a back seat since I got the 7. I can’t compare the recoil to a 7 wsm, but compared to a .300win, yes the recoil is less. It is a pleasure to shoot.

Interesting post on the LRH forum about not using Bergers in it. I suspect they crafted the rifle to the bullet, which there is nothing wrong with at all. Just be sure you want that exact bullet?

"I've tried everything known to mankind in my 7lrm. The only thing it will shoot is Bergers(180 Hybrid or 175 Elite hunter) and H1000. Not even the 175 ELD-X that it was supposed to shoot well when Gunwerks sent the gun to me. Tried 23, 26, 7977, retumbo, 33. None of it works. Probably why the couldn't supply me with the 3 boxes of factory ammo I ordered when I ordered the gun. Would have been hard to disprove how bad it shot if they sent me their ammo. Spent 10K on a gun and they told me they weren't loading 175 eldx ammo yet for 7lrm. Seems to me someone should have called me and told me they couldn't get the eldx's to shoot in it. Instead they blamed my reloading. Garrett Wall told me to try 180 hybrid. Wow, all the sudden my reloading got really good. Not the experience I was wanting when I decided to order a Gunwerks Gun. Huge disappointment!! "

It was late last night y’all. Sorry. I meant to say super magnum velocities without super mag recoil.
I read a little negativity too on it. I’m drawn to wildcats for some reason. This one, 6.5PRC and 7Dakota have me interested. Truth be told, I’d be happy with posting up with my cruddy 700 270 for a few hours just to feed the urge to burn some powder. In the meantime, i read about new stuff.

Article on 7mm LRM

S&S Precision built one for me seven years ago.
The only downside I have come across is the brass. It is made for Gunwerks by Hornady and I had some pretty noticeable inconsistencies in the quality of the brass about three years ago.

The LRM is a more proprietary round and can complicate finding brass for it. It is a good design cartridge, but with the 28 Nosler and 7mm/300 Win Mag available, it wouldn't be a round I'd lean towards.

Both share a parent case, correct (.375 Ruger)? Seems like if you have the dies you ought to be able to make it.

However, like Chad said, if you're already in a long action, why not just go .28 Nosler?

Yeah, if you want brass you pretty much have to go through Gunwerks or one of the very few online retailers that sells Gunwerks brass. But Gunwerks always has brass available, either new or once fired. As for the quality of the brass.... It's Hornady. Not necessarily bad but not really top shelf. Just prep it, weight sort it and you will be ok.

I chose the LRM for a few reasons;

* Speed is cool but I am looking for something in the neighborhood of 2950 to 3000 fps using as little powder as possible to extend the throat and barrel life.
-My rifle is now shooting 2930 fps with just a 23" barrel and using only 70.5 grains of H100.

* No rebated case.
-Not that I don't like the ultra mags I just didn't want to build another extreme overbore magnum.

* No belted cartridges.
-It makes brass prep and sizing more consistent. No need for small base dies to size that very last of the belted case.

My rifle was first built with a 26" barrel and was shooting just a little over 3170 fps with a 180 grain Berger Hybrid. After hunting with it for hard for three years I decided to shorten the barrel and maybe change the bullet. All of the bullets I tried, SGK, ELDX, LRAB, shot well but I ended up back at the Berger Hybrid. Probably because I already owned 1k of them. Going to a 23" barrel length was absolutely the best decision I made with this rifle. It still shoots flat and is now SO MUCH EASIER TO CARRY.

I have heard that some guys are getting 3000 fps out of 7mm Rem Mags with 180 grain bullets but have not come across one yet in the wild with a 26" barrel much less a 23" one. I'm sure they are out there but I just haven't seen it yet.

If someone wants a super fast ultra mag in 7MM then the 28 Nosler is really a great choice. Not too hard to find brass of decent quality and very consistent factory loaded ammo.
If outright bullet speed is the be all, end all you want-You could even look at some of the more exotic offerings from someone like Jarret or something like the 7mm Hot Tamale and get even more performance.

The 7mm LRM is a well sorted out cartridge that lands just between the Rem Mag and the newer Ultra Mags offered today.

Yes, but, not really. The main reason the 28 Nosler is one of my top sellers right now is the poor quality of factory Nosler ammo. I load lots of 28 Nosler ammo that I sell to gunsmiths or their customers. The main reason is they build these nice custom rifles and can not get factory ammo to shoot well or consistent enough to group well. And the 28 Nosler is one of the best long range cartridges right now, and the factory ammo simply can not keep up at longer distances. The lower quality factory ammo will show itself at the longer ranges. I have some customers who have turned in some sub 1/3 moa groups at 1000-1200 yards with my ammo. The 195 Berger is THE top bullet for that round as a long range bullet AND hunting bullet. It hits SOOOO hard at distance. The 28 Nosler has been a VERY impressive round.

I chronographed my 7mm/300 WM last time at your place, and I'm running 3039 fps avg with a 195 grain Berger now.
