I am considering leasing and/or buying land in SE Ok. Curious as of to which counties produce the best results and if hunting the low lands hunting is better than high grounds. Any help would be much appreciated!
Have a nice little honey hole in Oklahoma, more southern than south east, but still good place. Here’s some of the bucks we have taken the last couple years. The widest one we found this year, the other three were all shot as mature bucks. The pic of the three were all from this year, and my son shot the other last year. We have owned the place two years, so we went easy on harvest last season not knowing what all was on the place.
Sorry if the pics are upside down, don’t know why the editor did that.
I know Pushmataha County has big deer. I have friends with land up there. You best have real good fences if you buy up there cause locals see nothing wrong sharing it with you.
I have a hunting friend that bought some land near Antlers. He has had major trouble with the locals trespassing. He bought the land, because it was more affordable than TX. I guess if you were going to live there, this would not be an issue.
Its localized just like in Texas. Talk to anyone in East Texas and they will talk about trespassers and squatters too.
Best bet is to be a good neighbor, have some neighbors that live there year round, and make friends with your neighbors. Also doesn't hurt to have cameras visible at gates and hunting areas.
My wife used to own some property on the river in Pushmataha Co. Off Faith Baptist Rd. There was a Park Ranger who had lived next door his entire life, so access to her property was constantly monitored. IF we were to buy some property up there, it would be high-fenced previously or immediately thereafter. And we'd have 'someone' living on the property 24/7.
