This is just my observation of live animals and could be my imagination. I've hunted the south part of Hill country/Edwards Plateau area for over 40yrs. During my early years the blackbuck bucks and does seemed really small. As small or smaller than the smaller Hill country deer. There didn't appear to be many and they also were very cold sensitive. Now, it seems that the average whitetail is larger, obviously due to better game management, herd management and protein supplements. What it also appears, is that blackbuck are everywhere now and are larger. Maybe its just me imaging how small they were. Maybe they are taking advantage of the protein supplement, or maybe the smaller ones were killed by the cold, leaving the larger ones to carry on. Or maybe its my imagination! What say you? capt david

David I grew up in San Angelo many years ago and still remember when the ranchers around the area would comment that the area blackbuck were just a few hours of 25 degree temperatures from being history. Now days there are more than ever. scratch

Size of BB have looked the same to me for as long as I can remember. Maybe like all animals they are adapting to their environment. Years of exposure to the cold of winter have given them heavier winter coats. That or according to NOAA climate change has made the winters warmer.

It would be interesting to see data on BB. I did read a study once that said Nilgai from S. TX now weigh, on average, 25% to 30% more than their native cousins in India. Wouldn't be surprised if a simialar effect took place in BB over time.
