I had the privilege of being invited on a goose hunt this past weekend and am sure glad that I was able to make it. While I learned that I am not a Goose hunter, I had an absolute blast with a great group of guys. To say that it was disorganized would be an understatement. A group text was organized with everyone involved and I think that is pretty much where the planning stopped. From that point on it was a combination of flexibility and "winging it." skinnerback had the food covered and we knew where we were going....kind of. The plan was for all of us to leave on Friday and we would return on Sunday. We knew we were hunting Saturday morning and we knew we were hunting Geese. Until late Thursday night, we really didn't even know exactly who would be riding with who. Obviously, it all got worked out...except where my bed was because someone was sleeping in it when I was finally going to head that way Friday night I was one of that last to show up in camp and the organization hadn't got any better. People were scattered from one end to the other and I was wrapping up a phone call with 3 people peeping through my windows or knocking on the door of my truck...all I could think was "this is going to be a looooooonnnnnggggg weekened" It didn't take long before the beer and bs was flowing. While I am good friends with some, had met a couple of them once or twice and hadn't met a few yet, it felt like we had all been friends for a lifetime. At 3:45 in the morning, we all started moving around and getting ready to head out. I don't think any of us were ready for what was about to happen and our expectations of the goose hunt were far from reality, at least I know mine was. I can't honestly say that I will not be back goose hunting...when you are as "tall" as I am and the mud in the field is as deep as it was, let's just say I was struggling But I was better off than the three that fell We put out 1300 decoys, relocated the blinds and got set up right at LST. From daylight until we called the hunt, the wind was howling but the birds were flying...just not always around us. We ended up with more ducks than goose (only one goose). We headed back to camp and it was all booze, bs, great food and great company from there. Little organization, tough hunting conditions, 13 guys from all walks of life and all over the state of Texas, for 2 1/2 days in semi-confined area...not one complaint, not one argument, not one bit of drama and we all left with great new friends, reinforced old friendships and stories and memories that will stay with us for a long time. I am sure this thread will get some more of the stories posted and everyone will share their pictures.

Had to take one for the team. Since I was the one that cleaned the birds and they were in my truck...figured I would take the ticket Thank goodness that Mr. Game Warden was a very reasonable and understanding fella because I didn't do anything right He could have written all of us tickets for co-mingling, not leaving an identifier on the meat, not knowing who killed which birds, and the list sounded like it went on... He decided to make it a warning so we could transport the birds and if we ran into another Warden on the way home, we could show them the ticket and be on our way. I will say, I think he appreciated my brutal honesty and found my complete and utter ignorance endearing What about this?!?!?!

The food was absolutely outstanding and Spencer really went above and beyond. I am still full. Great group of guys and great times. Like David, I had only met 3 of the others once, but being there felt like I was among lifelong friends. No complaining, no drama, just the way it should be and I can't wait for the next group outing.

Was a heck of a trip, and an honor to finally meet some of you that I've been talking to for years! Good times with good people and definitely looking forward to more shenanigans in the future.

I got to see Snakewrangler bust his butt in the mud, then I busted my butt in the mud, but the most epic part of the trip I think was 2Bees busting his butt in the mud and then coming unglued. He took out his anger on some poor defenseless decoys and said about 15 bad words in one breath. That was HILARIOUS!!

Needless to say the majority of Wharton county knew what I thought about goose hunting at that very moment lol

When they said 30-40mph winds, they meant it! I’m 6’3” and when the wind blew my hat off, it landed 30 feet away after it smacked Wade in the back. The look on his face was funny

The look on his face was funny That hat almost got stomped into the mud, but I was genuinely afraid of who’s it was and didn’t want myself to get stomped into the mud
