Anybody have experience with a 260AI and the 143 ELD-X? Looking at a 24 inch barrel, looking for data if anybody has any.

Could be a good one, no experience with it. Biggest advantage IMO will be increased case life and Ackley said that about the 308 and 243 but he also said it makes for a cool looking cartridge on the 243. Expect perhaps 100fps more velocity. from what I have read on it but I would count on a little less than that then be happy if it out preformed that assuming same pressure
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

There's a couple threads on bowhunter forum if you search 260AI...Don't have to have an account for that part..

Might as well go 6.5-284 Don't have to fire form to get there.
Look at the .260 A.I. and 6.5-284 side by side.
Both are badasses, though.

I say go for it. I for one prefer to ride a different horse than everyone else. 50% of the people at the race track are running the same motor, 50% of match shooters have the same caliber, etc, etc.. While the .260 has came and went in popularity it never quit being a competitive cartridge. The AI version can only be better. As far as why go to the trouble, why not?

Thought about it, and I like it, but it’s a magnum volt face, requires all new magazines, and if I’m going through all that I’d rather build a 7WSM.

Just build a damn potato cannon, Wade. They're fun as hell and they use cheap ammo that you can mash up and eat with gravy. Win/win.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

I prefer the barrel for a tennis ball or golf ball but other people complain that those hurt Seriously though, in my research this caliber came up and perked my interest. I think Buzz is rubbing off on me

I think Buzz is rubbing off on me Handloaders cartridge 100%. Running factory 260 Rem is anemic ammo. Once A.I. is fire formed, well, then it has to be hand loaded. Pretty much the same story on the 6.5-284 to get high quality ammo.

I've had my 260 ai for about 4 years now. Running 143ELDX with RL26 around 2900fps, lapua brass, CCI primers, 24" barrel. I've tried H4350, H4831SC and RL26 achieved about 100fps over each of those powders. Fireforming isn't that big of a deal, spent one range trip forming 100rnds of lapua brass and haven't had to do it again.
One thing I would highly recommend is to have a wyatts extended mag box installed, lets you seat the bullet out a little further gaining case capacity.
I really like the 260ai and built it as something "different". Currently thinking of adding a 6.5 SAUM to the safe, won't be replacing the 260ai though.

I have absolutely no experience in owning any of these but I do plan on getting a 6 5 bore rifle at some point. Couple that with the fact that reloading isn't as hard and, more importantly, more entertaining than o thought. So I definitely want a non typical caliber.
6.5cm is exactly what I'm sure everyone says it is but to me isn't cool anymore. This 260ai and 65.x47 seem cool. I presume with habdloading one can make it just as accurate.

The cool factor of the 6.5X47 is an incredibly consistent shooter. Plus brass that lasts an insane amount of firings. My good friend Dave has ran a 6.5X47 for many years. I asked him last year "how many firings do you have on that brass?" He said after 15 he quit counting. He has worn out more than one barrel using the same brass. He annals every firing, so that is a major help. Built my daughter a 6.5X47 last year. It's not gonna make the velocity of a 6.5 Creedmoor, but it easily makes ammo that has ES in the single digits.

The technical geek in me just loves all the things I've read from 6 5x47; extended case life, accuracy, works with variety of bullet and powder combos. Yea, the biggest knock I he as r us lower velocities but all I'm hearing is longer barrel life. Heck, I even like the idea of saving a grain or two versus other 6.5 short action calibers. 2-3% difference powder may not mean anything to some but I bet some high volume shooters will notice the difference. I say it all the time. I'm not cheap just value concious.

One of the best powders in the world. Preach brother. Even as a newb I totally agree. I want to use it for everything. For me it went more like, "oh so there are people with excellent varget loads for 6.5x47. That's another in the pro column for that caliber." I bought some reloader 15 and had some luck with in 6.5 grendel. Once I'm out, I'd like to varget that one too.

I knew several shooters who went 260 AI for their comp rifles, mainly Terry Cross. We spoke about it years ago (after they wrote his article about it), and the gain over a normal 260 was right at 75-80 fps with the same H4350 powder. If you went to a double base powder, like the R17, R26 or similar powder, you can gain more than 75 fps over the H4350, but you could also start with a double base powder to begin with. The consensus on the 260 AI was that the minimal gain was not worth the head ache of fire forming and such with normal temp stable powders. You can always improve the speeds with a double base powder, at the risk of being temp sensitive.
Most of the time when you go to an AI, you gain about 80-100 fps. The 7-08 AI rounds with Varget we have gone to yield about 120 fps gain with the 162 grain bullets. Heavier bullet and higher yield does make it a little more attractive.

It makes zero sense to me that a 260 ai only gains 50% of what a 7mm-08ai does even though its the same case and dimension except the diameter of the bullet.
