We don't have feeders, so I typically park 600-800 yards away and walk so as not to disturb their travel routes too much.

I think it depends on where you hunt, hunting pressure, and if they're accustomed to ATV's, tractors etc. I see more deer when I walk generally speaking. During bow season I can drive to my stand with no problem, park 40 yards away and see deer all day long. HOWEVER, the day rifle opens they become extremely sensitive in my area and we're forced to walk in the last 200-300 yards. We hunt 800 acres but all surrounding properties are heavily hunted.

Wear rubber boots, and hunt the wind at all times. No amount of concealment spray is gonna mask you well enough to a shooter buck if your scent is being blown their direction. Small bucks and doe's aren't as cautious I've found, but that shooter you see on cam dang sure notices.

this for me, plus I will put out about 5-10 pounds of extra corn, Omalean, alfalfa for axis, Big and J, any extra, the deer LOVE the sweet taste. They will stay longer which attracts more deer

I drive side by side with corn feeder. Spread some out from feeder out to other areas. Park 125 yds away and walk to stand. Deer hit corn quickly. They seem to be used to sxs sound.

I realize I am getting up in age and I don't know squat. But do an experiment. Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon. A time when you are most likely to see more deer. Drive what ever you drive in the pasture. Count the deer and watch what they do. Then another day walk the same road you drove and count the deer and watch what they do. I will bet you a dollar against a dime the the time you drove the vehicle you saw more deer and they were less spooked.

Every property and stand is different... Some we walk in 100 yards and some 300 or more. We hunt on top of ridges so driving in is not good. Walk in, pop up and get in blind. Most deer won't even notice if you wait when they are looking away. Key is don't walk in late so there is no deer to see you. Last year they bedded right by road on my favorite stand and this year not luckily. Of course it was a swamp this year...

Both, lately I've spent more time walking to my spots.

Drive and walk about 200 yards unless its really cold then I get a little closer.

Not quite 6' 174lbs. I've just done this for 56 years.

I try to park far enough away that I can't see the blind or feeder from the vehicle. For the most part, it's usually a few hundred yards away.

Varies by stand, wind, time of day, weather, etc. One stand has a ATV garage under it. Others we walk 300 yards or more. Our "cliff": stand, you can drive a truck within about 50 feet and walk to it; another we can drive the truck literally to the stand if needed for old guys or little kids... then go park the truck.

I don't think there is a one way, best way fits all answer to this age old question.

As for scent, bow hunting, I'll just step in a pile of cow dung on the way into the blind. They are used to that scent

I walk 95% of the time. There will come a time when I'm not able to, and for now I enjoy it. Besides, much of my land is public and there's not a choice.

If I ride to a stand I like to be dropped off. From what I've seen deer associate the ATV/tractor/truck with danger and when they see it leave the area they seem to calm down.

I don't think there's anything that's going to cover or eliminate scent from a deer's nose. I use wind as a starting point and then thermals to pin point.

I walk. I've killed several axis while walking to the blind. Plus the calorie burn is beneficial. We only drive into the pasture to feed, water, or pick up a harvested critter.

I walk everywhere and don’t crank a vehicle on my place when I am there alone. I do all I can to have no noise “footprint” at all - I am even careful about no music, slamming truck doors, etc. I also hunt a lot during the week.

Sometimes I have company (wife,BIL,daughter, etc.). Often I drive to the stand on ATV with them. (Plus it’s just unavoidably noisier at the camphouse). We always have a great time, but there is no comparison to the number of mature bucks I see alone vs. what is seen when we are all together. None. I actually just sort of slowly “discovered” this over 15 years of owning the place.

Of course, my place has little activity on it during the year. I’m sure that makes a big difference on it vs. places that have constant traffic/human presence. But mature bucks are smart. Vehicle activity (especially at unusual times like before daylight) is not hard for them to associate with hunting if you think about it. I’m convinced they can pick up on just about any activity they can associate with hunting through their past experience. JMHO.

Having one or both kids with me every time I hunted this year, we either rode the Honda or drove.
